I'm buying a scrapped 7. Questions.

"Hit in the passenger front and passenger rear. Complete interior, but air bag was blown. Twin Turbo. Stick shift. Salvage title. No information about the mileage, or condition of the motor or clutch. What you see is what you get. Selling in "As-is" condition."

I got the engine rebuild estimated already, just iffy on bodywork.

Anyone have any idea of how much it might cost to replace every pannel on the car with new ones?

Anyone have an estimate range on how much labour might be to fix the body, and get all the pannels installed and ready to paint? Maximum cost?

I managed to bargain to $3,400 USD. Anyone know where else I might find scrapped 3rd gen RX7s?

Thanks a million all! This forum has always been so helpful.

It is in Cal?

I've thought about that car. The thing I ended up really wondering about is why it had tan door panels on a 94 (they all were black).

Anyway sounds like your wondering what it'll take to fix it?

Here ya go! Follow the link and you'll see a repair photo diary, yours looks worse IMHO.

I can tell you that you will probaly spend as much as you would a car that is in decent shape, as you would paying a shop to fix that thing. The unibody is most likly tweeked fairly well, and the car may never be the same. I would say if you can't do the work your self or know someone who can get you an awsome deal part that car out.

I believe you would be much better off purchasing a car that ran correctly and wasn't in such questionable shape. Move on to a better deal.

He could probablty make a couple of grand above his cost by parting it out, depending on the condition and amout of mods done to the drivetrain.

Well... I am going with an engine swap, and to do this I don't really want to pay for a working RX-7. I got the 2JZ-GTE priced out, and I know it will probably cost me just as much to buy a working 7 if I were to repair it. But like i said before, I aint going rotary. I'm just wondering how much it would cost to fix up the body/frame. From the picture, it looks like the entire chassis might be messed up. I have no idea what it takes to repair something like this. Or even if it is possible to fix it. Any feedback?

ZenTrickz,

Actually that car doesn't really look that bad, honestly.

If anything took "frame damage" it was the engine sub-frame and possibly the passenger-side frame-rails. The rest just looks like typical body damage.

Dude, 3400$?!?

Buy it!

I suggest you check out:

http://beyondtheredline.fd3s.net/myrx7s.html

for an example of cars that were in much worse condition and are now running perfectly and look great.

You're not going to have to replace *every* panel on the car, but obviously the damaged ones + hood are going to have to go.

For 3400$ do you know what a great race car platform that can be? Why let someone else chop it up because they don't have the vision to fix it?

ZenTrickz,

I HIGHLY recommend you contact turbojeff for both advice and those parts he has on his site.

http://community.webshots.com/photo/...89560558bvFbDe

He's got atleast half the parts in WHITE (looks like he just added the parts too!) you need already and I'm sure can provide some great advice.

clayne,

Whoa, I appreciate the links! After reading your first link I came to understand that this is worth the buy. If a 7 was hit by a semi truck and can look like that. Dang this project I have in mind is more than possible. Good tip on checking if turbojeff is willing to sell those parts I need. Awesome feedback bro, owe ya one.

LOL...

I've got everything you need Zen except the exterior sheetmetal. I'll trade the frame rails, 1/4 panel and RF suspension for the drivetrain since your doing a swap.

It IS fixable, it is a fair amount of work though. It is hard to know someone's background when they post up a question about fixing a car. If they are just taking it to a shop and saying "fix it" it is totalled. If you've got some skills then HELL YEAH it is fixable.

Zen,

Also plan on putting a good amount of work into fixing it yourself, and using the body shop for the frame rails and paint. But 3400$ man, Jeff already has a trade for you!

Hey bud, well just want to help you out some with prices rather than just question you about what you want to do with it.

You can get a whole 99 JDM Conversion done.

for around $1300-$1500

May be around $500 for used fenders with JDM markers

add anywhere between $3000-$5000 for a good custom paintjob.

Looks like you are missing rear panels as well. That should be another $300-$500 for used ones

Spoiler of your choice between $300-$800

and we have to make the car run. Based on your comments you are going for a different engine and if yu are going with a 20B you can spend anywhere from $10K-$30K in one depending fi you do the work yourself or pay someone o do it.
If you get and LS1 engine anywhere from $10K-$18K or Supra...hah! good luck you will have to do most of it custom raising your price to the roof or fabircating lots of parts.

Good luck.
My advise
You can buy one in better shape with engine not running for around $5k or so. that would save you lots of money.

Hey I've needed those price ranges. Yea I've always loved the 99 spec kit/wing. Though I sort of hate that license plate there. Pettit Racing has a nice replica bumper without the license plate.

Yea, I know what I'm getting myself into. My installer Reg Riemer is a 2jz guuru. His background is amazing, putting 2jz's in Lexus's, BMW's, and he met with a group of people to get experience with doing a COUPLE of 2jz swaps in RX-7's. Greatest thing is, is that his shop is centralled right in my local town, Calgary Alberta!

Again thanks for the feedback
