Im buying a 93 rx7 2morrow need advice!!
Hi everyone im fairly new to the rotary scene...but ive done my homework and have learned alot! tomorrow im picking up a black 93 touring 5speed the guy wants 15500 i talked him down to 13500, everything on the car works, here is the list of cons- paint fading on sunroof, 5th gear has a small grind everytime i shift into it, drivers side headlight cover is broken off, rearview mirror is loose, and also the turbos sound kinda whiny/loud is that normal? or m aybe a boost leak? the car has 60k on the odometer the engine was replaced at 48k everything is documented and on receipts, no accidents, what yall think?? good deal or no? also what about the turbos being loud/whiny? oh yeah mods are apex catback exhaust, aluminum ast,new silicone...it still has a stock downpipe so i know i need to replace that.....please advise

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
compression, full diagnostic and full boost pattern test. After that decide how much its beat up on and make the best offer. If none of the prior tests come out good, DO NOT BUY IT.

if the turbos have significant play and/or leaking oil then they could be bad. That is gonna cost any where from 900.00 t0 3000.00 depending on what you do. Get the boost pattern test done on it. Hook up a boost gauge to the UIM nipple and run it in the car and courtesy of Robinette's
if that checks out then you have a healthy boost pattern at least. Compression is the other major important thing to know. Good Luck
Drive to third gear with normal acceleration
Accelerate from 35 MPH at WOT until passing 4500 rpm
A slight and smooth increase in power should be felt at approximately 4500 rpm. This will be about 65 MPH.
Boost should be above 10 psi up to 4500 rpm. The boost will drop to about 8 psi just after 4500 rpm, and will begin rising towards maximum boost depending on the length of time the throttle is held wide open. As a benchmark, many owners were asked to time their cars from 40 to 70 MPH in 3rd gear. To try the test yourself, simply cruise at 35 MPH in 3rd, floor it and start timing when you pass 40. On average, a stock car should do it in about 4.9 seconds and a slightly modified car can bring it down to the 4.2 second range.

I would shop around don't buy the first one you look at. Plus, do what has been suggested above.
The first one might be the one you buy, but I have always looked at several before making a decision. That's me though.

The stock twins you really can't hear anything if it has the stock pre-cat on and the stock airbox. Once you get the airbox off and get a downpipe you'll hear them and even then it's not that loud.

it should be 10-8-10? if its not you got other problems. One of a hundred. You shoud have this car looked at by an experienced rotary mechanic, they will tell you right away. If you buy the car without doing this, then you bought at your own risk. Which is not a good practice BTW. DO it, you won't be sorry. Call tommorrow, find one, arrange for the guy to take it there before you buy. Pay for it yourself and get the piece of mind. If he refuses, then you just saved yourself. Be smart is my advice.
