ignition and constant wire question

where are easy places to splice my constant and ignition wires into other constant and ignition wores for my boost gauge? why cant i hook up the ignition wire to the ashtray light? then whenever i turn my lights on my boost gauge will turn on right? Would there be anything wrong witht this set-up? and if so where and how would i find valid constant and ignition wires to splice into? thanks alot! -Jeff

I'm in the process of installing my boost gauge too and this is what I did so far... Underneath the steering column, where the center vent is, there is a wiring harness. It's kind of to the right of the column if you are facing forward. Peel back the insulation and look for a solid Blue/red stripe wire and splice your constant wire to that one. For your ignition on wire splice into a solid yellow/black stripe wire. These wire are pretty small gauge ones, but are mixed together with some heavier gauge wires on the same harness. Make sure you test before you splice. Connect the ground wire to the hood release lever mounting bolt. For the ilumination wire you need to find a red/black stripe wire that I haven't found yet, but when I find it I'll let you know. My gauge works great except it doesn't have the ilumination wire connected yet.

for the illumination wire your gonna have to splice into the cigarette lighter light. this is by far the easiest spot to connect em. u will have to pull the whole guage cluster plastic off the dash though, u dont need to pull it off too far but just enough so that you can disconnect the little light. then pull it out under the dash, peelk back the insulation (black foam) and splice into it. works awesome on my defi guages. oh, and by the way, the guage cluster plastic is held on by two screws right where you kness r if you were sitting down, once theyre off then just yank towards you and itll pop right off.

i looked under the steering column for the wires......and no luck.
I think all the wires from my aftermarket alarm are blocking them so i guess i am going to use the lighter for my constant. I still need to find a place to put my igniton and ground. i just went out to try it again and the ony pregress i made was hooking up my light wire to the ashtray. and is it easy to remove and replace the dash since i guess i have to get back there to remove the cigarettelighter light. thanks alot -Jeff
