Idle Question(searched)

So I've been driving my FD for 1 month or so since I got it running. Up until two nights ago it started up the same way every time. It would crank and rev to 2000 and then comes down to 1200 until warm and then settle at 800ish.

On the past couple of cold startups, it has NOT done the familiar 2000 jump but rather sat at 1200 and felt rather lumpy. If I try and rev it, it feels as though it stumbles. After it is warm it runs and idles perfectly fine. I assume it might be the extremely cold weather we have had the past few days.

No stalling, no smoking(except the normal)

any ideas?

thanks

I don't see anything that is out of the ordinary. IMO, I would ignore it unless the car starts stalling on you or even when it warms up the idle is still loopy.

Isn't that the "Accelerated Warm-Up System (AWS)"? When a RX7 has a cold engine, the AWS will rev the engine to 2-3k to help warm up the cat... most people say it is probably bad for your engine & disable it (it is bad the same way peeling out with a cold engine is). To disable the AWS, start the car in gear (with clutch in, of course).

The accelarated warmup will rev at 3k for a while and then drop down. I have heard it is bad, but if you start the car in anything but Neutral it will not do it.

IMO, 3000 rpms is nothing. Now revving the car to 7000 rpms on startup = bad.

My car running on a PFC will occasionally not start. Start, jump to 3k then steadily drop as water temp increases, usually idle is normal (800) @ about 100F. What concerns me is when it starts, runs to 2k, then drops to 800 but bounces from 400-800 over and over. almost sounds like a port job. Previous owner claimed it got a streetport on a recent rebuild. but it doesn't bounce when it's warmed up, and will sometimes stop when i goose it to about 2k and let it drop.
