Idle problem with A/C on. Help!

First of all I have an Automatic. Sorry! Anyway it seems that my A/C will work fine in the mornings when I go to work but when I drive home with more traffic it will start dying at stops.

The best I can figure is that as the under hood temp rises it can't idle with the A/C running. I've alread tested all the electrical load, A/C swith, lights etc to make sure they activate the Air Idle Control valve. I've even tested running the fans manually when the car engine compartment was still cool with the hood opened and the all the other electrical loads on and the A/C still worked. Unfortunately as soon as I have a hot day in traffic it doesn't work again.

Is it possible the Air Idle Control valve may start failing to perform properly when it physically gets hot?

Could it be the air temp sensor is bad and when the incoming air gets hot it goes too rich to idle ?

Any ideas are welcome. I don't want to buy electrical parts till I'm confident they could help.

Thanks

P.S. I have a downpipe coming to help lower the under hood temperatures.

Is the thread too long and boring or does nobody want to help because I drive a dreaded automatic.

Oh well I'll figure out something even if it is wrong.

I can't help you out much but I've known several automatic turbo cars to have the same problem. I can only tell you the obvious, turn up the idle for the time being.
