Idle adjust on JDM engine?
I recently installed my resonated midpipe and bigger cat back exhaust system. My converter was starting to plug up and my car felt sluggish shifting through the gears.
Anyway my airpump was starting to make noise with the old connection at the converter plugged off. So i searched and searched about removing the air pump or just disconnecting it. So what I did was just unplug it. The noise was gone but my idle dropped to about 600-650rpm, which i knew it would drop.
So the FSM says to warm up the car to normal operating temps, ok. Then turn the AAS under the intake elbow all the way in, is idle in spec? No. It's lower now at about 550rpm. Next it says to adjust it by the throttle adjust screw with the jumper wire between pins TEN and GND at the diag connector. I did this and brought the idle to around 950rpm.
It stayed there for the whole ride home, about 30min. I started it the next morning and it's smoking a bit rich on cold start, but i did install a midpipe so i was worried. When it warmed up it was at about 750rpm and running kinda rough. I then realized that i didn't adjust the AAS under the intake elbow back to were it was. I turned it out a full turn and it seems better but the idle is still low.
Is there any special way to adjust the idle on a jdm engine? I just want to bring it a bit to smooth it out with the air pump disconnected. Any info will help.
