IC piping

I have a single turbo and a FMIC. I also had the stock plastic elbow into the throttle body (I know, I know). Anyway, I bought the metal GReddy one, but it is quite a bit shorter than the plastic one. Is there a place I can purchase this single run of pipe, from the metal GReddy elbow to the FMIC? I looked at the rx7 store, but the 2 and 3 piece kits look made to work with the stock IC, plus I don't need 2 or 3 pieces, only one. Any chance this could be made somewhere locally?

Thanks for the replys. Anyone who has used Burnstainless for this particular piece: would you care to share the specs?

Since the Intercooler kit came with the pipe to run to the stock elbow, you could just get a 30 degree bend in 2.75" aluminum to fill the gap. I know it's not one piece but it's simpler to find.

I will consider that, thanks. I don't have the car here at work-so is there an additional bend after the elbow? Or would a straight piece work?

or for now you can order that tough coupler material and join the 2 sections...if there are no bends and you just need it to go straight.

You might be able to wrangle a straight piece in there with long enough couplers. Here's a pic of your predicament, but it's with blitz piping.

The bottom center pic shows how short it comes, and you can see in the pic above it what the pipe looks like to fill in the gap. I actually cut to fit the pipe that was made for the stock mount intercooler (top left pic.)

Hey great reply! I can clearly see that a straight piece probably won't do. Thanks. Funny, I know we're not the only singles with FMICs. I wonder what all the rest have done?

I checked the greddy website and they offer a piping kit, 2 piece for the Greddy IC. They also have listings for the standard IC so this leads me to believe that it is what you need.( maybe)......Just called them, They said that the 2 piece kit I refferd to IS the correct one.. Goes for around $215. He said call local dealer for stocking info. Hope this helps you. FWIW: I think you could have one made and polished for less than that. Aloha, Dave

Relax. no need to get hostile, particilarly on a something totally off-topic from this thread, from 2 years ago, and with atrocious grammar.

Irregardless, you can see by this pic I'm not too worried about that vaccum line anymore..

ok, Jason's not answering my emails. I don't want to have to order a custom piece from burnsstainless as I have no way to bend it. Does anyone know of a shop that will sell just the piece I need besides the rx7store?

Burns will bend it for you (for $$$) if you know the angle you need.

Quite a few people have had them bend pieces here on the forum (just from reading, no personal experience with them). However, it seems most people just get a 90 or 180 degree bend and then cut the angle they need to save money.

What FMIC are you using? I'm just curious as to why you don't have the piping already.

I have the apex FMIC. It was connected to the stock elbow. I ordered the greddy metal elbow only to discover it was too short. It looks like if I had researched things a bit I should have bought the 2 piece set from the store which looks like it has the elbow and the piece I need. I don't know why they sell the elbow by itself as it will not connect to anything.

I don't believe the GReddy pieces will work (if that's what you are looking at). Those are designed for SMIC mounted in the stock location.

Why not get a straight piece from Burns, and then use some bent couplers: http://www.turbohoses.com/ maybe a 45 degree couple will work.

That might work.

Any high performance muffler shop with a Mandrel bending mahine can also bend you some piping.

Your local shop might even actually carry aluminum piping already. Worst case is you would have to order some straight piping, then take it to the shop and they will bend it for you. And it would also help if you took over the FD

good replies, and I appreciate them. I will ask at my local muffler guy. I just didn't want to pay extra for something I could do here with a couple of hose clamps for free. One thing, it looks like both the elbow and other piping is made so that it fits together (one piece inside the other) even without the couplers. I hate to be obsessive, but I had hoped for this prefabbed solution. Heck, it's why I'm not happy with the plastic in the first place. The couplers may be an option. I have the rest of today to look at it. I just wanted some ideas first. I know I'm not the only one with a FMIC and metal elbow. In fact, I thought I was the only one with a FMIC and the stock plastic one!

I don't know if this will help you, but here is what RTS3GEN did for his piping on the Apexi FMIC.

I just measured the section of pipe that I used to make up the difference.. it's a 30 degree bend with 3" legs on either side of the bend. Your trouble will be finding off-the-shelf bends in 2.75" pipe. I've dealt with the folks at Young's Performance before and they should be able to order you just about anything.. I'd really suggect calling them Monday and tell them what you need. It might not be overnight (you may have to wait until they get around to working with 2.75" tube again) but you'll get what you're needing.

Your other alternative might be to find 2 15" silicone bends (you may be able to use hump hoses) and use a length of straight 2.75" tubing. That way you avoid having to have anything bent.

I think the bend is necessary to clear the pulley. Looks like if it was a straight shot it might rub the top. Looks like in the pic posted he cut a bend and had it welded to fit. I have a pic of my engine bay, but it's too big, besides, I don't want to post it after that beautiful engine bay already posted.
