IC - OEM style carbon fiber hood by Shine Auto
IC - OEM style carbon fiber hood by Shine Auto
Hey guys.
I've contacted Ken over at Shine Auto to see if there was any interest in making an OEM style carbon fiber hood. From what I have read, they are the best..and I don't really like putting crap body parts on a car.
I got my response back and apparently I am a trend setter because I am the first person in their four years of being in business to request an OEM hood in carbon!
I'm throwing out an interest check here to see if anyone is with me on keeping the stock look but shedding a couple pounds and just a dash of rice!
I must say white cars with carbon fiber looks pretty slick...and I don't know who in their right mind would want to screw up the already sexy curves of the FD
The next best option is the feed hood, which I admit is pretty subtle looking. They are working on making one with a better fitment. The hood is designed to work with feed fenders, and when used on the stock front end the corners stick up a bit. That would drive me crazy.

The stock hood is pretty light as it is.
Normally when people change their OEM hood, its not because they wanna save more weight, but because they wanna make the hood purposeful by getting a vented hood.
I do like the idea of an OEM hood in carbon but most people wont spend the money because if they are gonna switch out their stock hood, is def gonna be because they wanna put in a vented hood.
Me, for example.

yeah the stock hood is definitely pretty light. a cf hood is definitely lighter, but i'm sure its not by much.
i agree with 1quik7, i think most people swap to help with engine bay temps and cooling.
i went with the knightsport-style hood (made by vis) because it has ducts in all the right places, especially the main ducts right behind my stock-mount IC.

Saving weight is not really a reason to spend a lot of money on a CF hood for me since the stock hood is pretty light to start with. For saving weight I'd go with a CF sunroof delete plate.
The mechanism is heavy and high up the car so removing it does a lot for the COG.
If there would be any hood I would buy it's a FPR Feed style hood. I just like the style. FRP is almost as light as CF, a lot cheaper and I'd have it painted anyway. The FD's looks don't suit an unpainted CF hood IMHO.

If I were to swap the factory hood for anything, it would be something I could modify with vents and such to suit my exact needs... and then have it painted.
The weight savings of cf versus stock (in regards to the hood) is so minuscule... that you could easily find better places to spend less money... for more results.
