IC intake temps - POST YOURS!

trying to get a general trend of how different ICs perform. i realize this wont be REALLY accurate so no bitching.....just post your numbers if youve got them!

please post:

---type of IC
---average temperature in different ambient temp conditions. (also temp OVER ambient)
---stock or what type of aftermarket front end
---turbo setup
---anything else you think might be contributing to your relatively lower or higher intake temperatures

thanks!

Re: Re: IC intake temps - POST YOURS!

mine intake temp is really high for some reason

--greddy smic
--hot so cali summer day time, in traffic, 50-60deg
--cold at night, 30-40 deg
--stock front end, no foglight
--stock twin, apexi intake, downpipe, catback
--measured with pfc commander

i don't have a proper duct for my greddy smic, so not enough air is going through the ic, plus when i turn my fan on, it's blowing hot air directly to the ic. [/B][/QUOTE]

I was just doing a search for what others are seeing for intake temps. Personally I'm seeing as high as 60C driving around town on about an 80F day. I have a stock IC, turbos, and front end. Obviously heat soak is to blame, but what I've noticed is that I start getting mad low RPM off throttle backfires and some idle problems once my intake temps reach 55C or so. Is that common?

Mr. Stocky well sealed

Stock IC
Recent 95F day IC was 60-70C! (Ac on in traffic water temp at 103C).
Same day on freeway around 50-55C
Nice cool night 50-55F IC is about 40-45C while moving.
Stock front end, IC duct sealed about 1/2 way around. Battery box air flow is about 90% tapped off. Cold air inlet with port from iC duct taped off. SO basically i have about as much air flow into the stock IC can get with the stock duct. It still totally sucks.
Stock turbos, see sign for rest of mods.

I would really like to see some number on the M2 medium stock mount.

---Apexi FMIC
---Usually see 40 C in the morning, and 35 C at night....never gets above 55 C even in 90 degree weather
---Stock front end
---Stock turbo's, all the bolt on's, heat sheilds removed
---Heat wrap on all piping

-Blitz fmic
-Usually about 35-40C freeway cruising during the day, gets below 30C sometimes at night, never above the low 50's on a hot day.. maybe 55 in traffic.
-Stock front end w/foglights
-Stock turbos, downpipe, Apexi intake, Efini Y-pipe, PFC, Blitz exhaust
-the intercooler being right in front I suppose

Are we talking about air temps into the IC and after the turbos or intake air temps after the the IC?

after IC

purpose of thread is to get some real world info on different ICs and intake setups....mainly the IC part though. so, if you have temps before and after IC those are also helpful...

It seems to me that the Commander has a way to get peak air temps. I think it would be important to get the peak air temp under WOT high rpm, full boost. That would be very important.

?

I think this is a good question.

My friend just switched from an M2 med to a Greedy stock mount. He said his IC temps are about the same! hard to believe. I'd like to know if that's true since the Greedy has a CARB number AND will not rub the hood like the M2 med.

Better late than never ....

Measuring using a thermoprobe stuck in the IC fin area near the outlet. Ambient temperature being about 35C.

Seems that my temperatures range from 33C to about 90C.

In traffic, the temperature (which I blame on heat soak) got up to about 80C.

10psi boosting (with stock turbos) pushes the temperature up rapidly at a rate of roughly 3-4C per second (on a level road).

I concluded that the stock IC temp can be rather low, but is ineffective in retarding the rate of temperature rise.

Oh, and normal cruising on a level road gives a reading of 40C at 70kph.

Stock IC with stock duct
K&N dual intake (intake temp 48C)
Original air-box air-supply hole plugged

THROW out all the INTake TEMP readings OUT THE WINDOW. " UNLESS they moved the Intake TEmp
gauge off the Intake Manifold"....

EVERYONE gonna get basically same readings because
The intake Temp gauge is mounted on the INtake Manifold, WHICH GETS HEAT SOAKED..

Hope this helps.

my sensor for intake temps is an autometer one. the probe is mounted in the elbow to the throttle body. so my temps are after the intercooler....

pettit stage 2 smic
pettit intake

all the other bolt ons and a ported nonseq. engine/turbo setup....

in town intake temps on a HOT day here in mississippi are usually around 115-120F. on the interstate, 100-110....

this is why i just put in a greddy 2 row fmic. i have yet to relocate the temp probe into my new greddy elbow....

From: Minnesota, now in FL and I dont think I'm goin back
Usually in the 40's on cool nights down into the 30's and sometimes in traffic low 50's. Although this is on mid 90 days. Even now that I'm in FL i still really dont see +50 to often.
