IC ducting/fresh air - which is better ?

IC ducting/fresh air - which is better ?

What do you think guys is better ?
If you look at my APEXi Power Intakes installation picture, you can see the hole in the IC duct on the upper side:


Is it better to seal off that hole ?
Or is it better to stick a stock rubber intake hose into that hole and seal around it (making it point to the intakes) so it can provide fresh air to the intakes (and the rest of the engine bay) ?

Currently I have it set up with the stock rubber intake hose blowing fresh air to the intakes, but am wondering if sealing off that hole wouldn't be a better idea ? (more airflow through the IC)

Where to get fresh air to the intakes though ?

Absolutely seal it, otherwise the intercooler gets less air.

I would seal it. Find another route for air to the intake.

If you remove the foam next to the radiator, some air will come in there.

Our cars come with dual oil-coolers so where to route the CAI hose ?

Then intakes will be taking in hot engine air and do you think IC can cool it off more then what I have is setup now ?

The problem with running a hose is that you just get a little cold air in the spot where the hose comes in contact with the filter. I would bet that 80% or more of your air is still coming from the engine bay. Definately seal off that hole and push all the air through the IC.

It is true that a small amount of air will bypass the radiator. However, it is not a significant amount UNLESS you are having issues with keeping your car cool, probably on the track only. For most of us, it won't make any difference.

Ok... I already did one track day with current setup and wasn't satisfied.... IC was hot as hell - I could only run up to 10psi.

I'll seal it off for now and see if it helps. I need bigger IC anyway

While moving, it doesn't make that much difference (i.e. road race). When you don't have air flow coming in the front (sitting in traffic, waiting for the tree when drag racing, etc) then you can/will suck in warmer engine air.

But I think I can make some heatshield and I will try to bring in some fresh air... I'll figure it out somehow... without drilling a hole in the bumper
