i want to clean out my stock intercooler, need help on best way to remove it

Hey guys, i am not very mechanicaly inclined here, but i am ready to take the task on removing my intercooler to clean it out and stuff, now is their anybody on here that that has a link to a site that shows a step by step procedure, or a personal write up on the removal? Also is their anything that i should be aware of during the removal? like the AST that sits in front? help would much be appreciated.

removal of the IC is pretty straightforward. first remove the two 10mm bolts that hold the plastic airbox cover on. Then remove the two bolts underneath it on the IC bracket. the ast just unbolts from the IC and just set it off to the side. remove the two big plastic intake tubes which are held on by hoseclamps. all thats left is two bolts that hold on the IC on at the bottom and then just seperate the IC from the duct. I may have forgotten one or two things, im just writing this up from my memory.

thanks for the replies thus far and for your input, yeah its a good idea to clean the intercooler out time to time to get rid of any oil that collects, and and any debris from the air intake duct in front of the intercooler.

use gas to flush it out

taking out the intercooler is easy but is always a pain due to all the little nuts and stuff like that, (its just time consumming, actuallyit takes only like a couple of mins but thats still too long for me to wait )

Why are you cleaning it? Get oil etc out of it? Do you think there'd be that much buildup?

Give us some pics of how dirty it is, I want something else to be paranoid about!

Basically, as long as you re methodical and organized, you can remove the stock intercooler pretty easily. I found the hardest screws the ones that go in on the bottom corners of the duct close to the radiator to be the hardest. Be careful not to scrape against the fins of the intercooler cuz that thing is just like a grater
I used carb cleaner and thoroughy sprayed the i/c from both ends, and then let it dry out for a few hrs before putting it back on. Be sure to tighten everything and and line up all the clamps so it'll be easier next time.
