I think my turbos are dead

Started my car up today and a lot of blue smoke was being blown out of my exhuast. I popped the hood and there was smoke coming from the turbo area, so I am assuming its my turbos. I might have a source to get a used set of twins with only about 50,000 miles on them (mine have about 118,000). Any suggestions?

More to add. The hose coming off my air pump has a crack in it that I noticed during inspection. I am wondering if my primary turbo (I believe that the turbo closest to the air pump, is damaged and making excessive heat. Also that same turbo seems to be making a little noise unless its all coming from the leek in my air pump hose.

I think you have alot of problems to diagnose before you can really say anything is bad. If your dipstick is dry, FILL THE OIL ALL THE WAY UNTIL ITS NOT, if youve been driving around with low oil for 2000 miles youve probably caused alot of hurt to your car.

If I fill up my oil what else would be a problem to my car, the oil is not leaking on the ground its just being burnt up.

I also wonder if my turbos are gone.

When I jack the car up I see a drop or two of oil a little higher around the sway bar under the turbos. I never see oil under my car when I stop at parking lots though, so it isn't a great amount.

When I start my car I have about 5 seconds of grey smoke. Fairly thick but only 5 seconds and it never smokes again. And some days it doesn't do this. Other days it does it every morning.

I also have oil in my intake. Maybe a half once or an once. But I have also heard this can occur if you don't have a catch can. So maybe a separate issue.

Any comments?

Thanks,
Joseph

have someone follow behind the car and get on the boost....ask them if there is a puff of smoke even when the car is nice and warmed up. If so those are some tired turbos.

So I started pulling stuff of my car (still have to get the turbos off) and noticed large amounts of oil around my oil pan and the turbo control actuator. Also one of the clips holding one of the hoses on the turbo control acuator is missing. Still think its my turbos, or do I have a bigger problem to deal with?

you know that means optomistically at the lowest he was out 1 quart and a mouthfull of oil? its not that hard to do that even without blown turbos if your omp is working and you drive hard.

Okay, after hours and hours of working on my car, I installed my friends turbos on my car. (His are were in good working order and had about 54,000 miles on them) I started up my car and same problem. I was able to get a closer look at where the smoke from under my hood was coming. It kinda looked like there was coolent leaking from were the turbos bolt to the exhuast manifold. When I took everything off I used the same gaskets as before. Any other ideas why I might be having this problem?

So yeah its oil not coolant. I put fresh oil in and it was dripping from were the turbos bolt on to the exhuast manifold.

could be a leaking line, or a coolant seal.

This might help
