I have some bad news for ya.

I have the same thing. It started when I took my car in for a smog check. When they were done, they brough the car around and I sat some water on the R1 lip. I thought nothing of it; until I got home. The coolant light and buzzer came on.. wtf? I have never had any coolant issues.

Well I think that the shop may have overheated the engine somehow.

I also did a pressure test several times, up to 24 psi on the system and nothing. I pulled the plugs and found no coolant. I replaced the coolant and still pushed into the overflow tank. I replaced the caps, nothing.

What I suspect is that there is a slight leak in the compression area of the engine where it pushes either compressed intake gases or compressed exhaust gases into the coolant system. I later talked with Mazdatrix and they confirmed that such a leak can occur and that it can be small enough that the small amounts of pressure in the coolant system, compared with the compressed gases, will not yet push back through into the engine. That makes sense and is probably why I have no problem with hot starts and no white smoke.

My symptoms are identical. Each day after a drive the coolant will have pushed into the reservoir (no leaks in my reservoir), some of it is pulled back in, but the majority stays because of all of the air (gases) in the coolant system. I remove some of the coolant from the reservoir, fill up the engine coolant and still happens.

I hope that it is something else, but I have 94K so it is hard to say. All of my other components are new.

Good luck.

Only one test left to do to verify this completely, taking it to a shop that can do a coolant sniffer test; testing for either intake or exhaust gases being present in the coolant system.

The motor is fine. You have a hose leaking somewhere. (maybe the one under the alt/air pump. Take the car to Rotary Power ask for Jeff. You could also try Tri-point (little $). You need to fix the problem or you will overheat and ruin the block..$$$$$$$$$$.

Yes there is or it wouldn't be showing low coolant and you wouldn't be able to add more coolant. Pressure testing doesn't always show a leak...I have seen and fixed the problem you are having in multiple cars. Take it to a mazda 3rd gen spped shop, they will fix it.

Just make everybody happy and check the hoses anyway! I'd start with the overflow from the filler neck hose. You have to take this sucker out and flex it to check it because it sits right in the way of hot rad air.

any progress?

I'm having same problem.
and I think my pettit ast is leaking.
I'm gona eliminate this ast thing.

what I found is pettit AST neck is wearing or collapsing
my cap(new) doesn't hold pressure.

when I do the pressure test this time I put the pump
at the piller neck to see if my AST hold pressure pump to
15 it release goo and 13 it suppose to stop but keep
going down WTF!! may be my moter shot .
so I took out the over flow hose and sprayed soapy water bubbles came out bingo..

so I modified cap to seal better but I'm still getting buzzer.
so I'm gona eliminate this **** ans put 16lbs cap on the
filler neck.

this is gona be final procedure before I decide that my moter is popped.

but funnt thing is I never have starting problem Hot,cold
never..

I hope I can save my engine..

BTW anybody want possibly bad Pettit AST? really cheap. may be someone can fix or get some special cap.

thanks..

If you aren't seeing any coolant on the ground, but you are having to fill it (and the low coolant buzzer keeps going off), it sounds like your coolant seals are gone...

Take it too a mechanic, but it sounds like you are up for a rebuild.
