I think my dad is about to get a spirit-R!

My parents lives in Nagoya, Japan. They recently came to cali to visit me and my little brother. My dad was shocked that I was driving rx7 because he too was a rotary lover back when he was my age. (He was driving first gen. Cosmo) After having fun with my family for a week they went back to Japan. Few weeks later my dad calls and said "hey, whats the newest rx7 around?" so I told him about the Spirit-R. After telling him, he started to "giggle" and said, "ok, next time you come back to Japan for a visit, I'll surprize you with something."

From that, I JUST KNOW that he is getting a rx7 Spirit-R. (and he won't let me drive it for sure.) sheesh, I'd have to put it up with him showing off his car and comparing with my 10yrs old rx7 against his sprit-R.

I wish the sprit-R came to U.S.!

My dad likes sports cars. (even though we are poor) He had cosmo sport, 1990 porsche C4, 1989 porsche turbo and now I guess his going back to rotary again...
He told me awhile back that hes done with rotary because he had a bad experience with shot coolant seal....which I experienced couple of months ago

but, damn! I have a feeling that my car is going to feel pretty crappy after being on his *almost* new rx7...

*oh by the way, I've never got to drive any of his cars I've listed..

Lucky Bastards. My old man has an old Landcruiser (which is pretty cool) and a convertable LeBaron (which is not).

I haven't gone back to visit my parents yet. I've been quite busy with my work. Ahaha, it would be nice if he got me two hookers ready at airport with "wecome back to japan" flag. lol Anyways, he had 1991 carrera 4, and sold it to get 1989 911 TT. Wow, those cars sounds old now, but this was about 10yrs ago.

My dad was a car freak back when he was around my age. He had cosmo sport. But sold it after driving it for few years because of the shot coolant seal. It's kind of funny that I just happen to get a rotary car just like my dad.

I guess I'll be ending up with a porsche later in my life just like my dad Porsche TT here I come! lol

They didn't make Twin Turbo 911's in 89 they were single turbo. And that sucks that your dad doesn't let you drive any of his cars. My dad always lets me drive his 911. It's like my second car.

The last RZ special edition was in 2000, only 175 made.

The last editions of the 7's that were sold were the Bathurst in 2002 (made until April 2002, I think) and of course the Spirit-R. Very last RX7 off the production line was on 26th Aug 2002.

I hope you at least steal the keys and take it for a spin.

But I don't know if I would ever call anyone who can afford a nice sports car poor... I guess it's all relative... the "poor" people I know can't even afford a POS used economy car. In some places the "poor" people can't even get enough to eat.

Japan I'm not sure about, but he lives in the Bay Area where the average income is pretty high. I can't remember the exact numbers, but I'm pretty sure that if your household income is below $70,000 then you are officially in the lower income bracket.

So you're right, "poor" is a relative term.

I was only 16yr old driving a CRX back then. If I were him, I wouldn't let a 16yr old touch the car. lol I just wish he still had it so I can feel the difference. I wonder how the 911 turbo kicks in.

I know it sucks huh? The closest I've got was driving his porsche in my dream. I took the porsche out and went for a drive and crashed the car on the way back home....and then I woke up.
