Unhappy I think the dealer shafted me with my FD????

I bought a 93 FD back in april and it had 88,000 miles on it. 6mos later i have 95000 miles then the water seals and the radiator are bad now. We bought it as is which we shouldve got the warranty but we wanted to jump on buying the car that we didnt have enough money for the warranty. i pay 413 a month and the car is just sitting on my driveway. I dont know if i should talk to the dealer about this because i think they can do nothing. My mom co-signed and once she found out about the problems that my FD has she got pissed and now she wants to complain to the dealer about getting out of the contract or have them repair it. The dealer has their own financing so there might be a shot of getting out of it. But i doubt it i think my mom is just wating her time.

It sucks paying 413 a month for a broken down car which i only put 6000 miles in 6 months. But i think im screwed for the next 3 yrs.

Any advice or comments????

thats a but load of money, you should have waited. so you have a blown engine now? if you can bairly afford the car then your gonna be able to get a rebuild, unless you do all the work your self, and send the engine to kevin landers. i think he rebuilds fd engines

You can try going to the dealer but I believe the normal waranty on a used vehicle that it would have came with is 3000 miles...

Does'nt hurt to try...you never now..sorry to hear man..wish you luck

the engine is still ok but i think the water seals are wearing out coz the oil is thin and theres some condensation from the oil cap. cut the car runs fine right now all i need is the radiator done.

you need a rebuild. if the water seals are wearing out the motor is NOT ok. you will need a rebuild more than likely. if you need a guy to do a rebuild for you let me know i know of a few good ones. but it will cost you. (usually between 2k and 3k)

Been there, done that.

Basically, you just have to suck it up or sell it. I hate to be harsh, but you didn't do your research before you bought the car, you didn't have a 3rd party check the car out, and you didn't get a warranty. You bought the car "as is".

I did the same thing (MANY years ago); however, that was probably before this board was around and definitely before I had internet access. I ended up taking it to another dealer and paying $10k for a new engine and turbos (yes, just because of damaged water seals but I was a n00b).

Knowing what I know now, the situation would be fixed MUCH differently for a LOT less money.

You should have waited and really thought the purchase through, but seeing your mom cosigned for your I'm guessing your pretty young.

No recourse now I'm afraid. You put 7K on a high mileage used car things can break and obviously did. Good luck paying the note and don't screw up your credit or your mom's.

A lesson learned I guess. I remember financing a 91 talon when I was a teenager paying 395$ a month for 5 years with 6K down...20% interest...looking back that was one stupid thing to do.

You live you learn.

what makes you think the water seals are bad?

as far as getting fucked by a dealer - you should expect that. any dealer. its doubtful anything will come from complaining to the dealer but you can try. or consider getting a lawyer, but by the time you pay for his time you would have had enough for a new motor if you need one.

find yourself a good rotary specialist in your area and get someone good to look at it. check the regional forums for someone in your area.

You didn't get screwed on the engine. FDs are prone to have the water seals go out.

You paid a little much for the car but you didn't expect the dealer to negotiate for a lower price did you? That part is up to you.

I remember when I first got out of college and my first car with the help of my parents was a Integra GS-R. Because I didn't have insurance for the duration of college, my insurance was more than my payments for the car ($280/month)! It hurt but after a year, it dropped in half.

I guess this is a learning lesson for you. No funds to buy the "just in case" or "when will the next thing break down" thing. Well, I hope you can get everything worked out for you.

You "might" have to take a loss on that car and sell it and just make payments on the remaining balance of what you owe on the car. It all depends on what you want to do with the car, keep it or sell it.

Good luck!

Did you do any research on the car before you decided to buy it?

That right there will release the dealership of any problems "car as is". Only way around that I believe follows lemon laws and from that point you have to prove the dealership knew of these problems and did not disclose them at time of purchase, which may be impossible to do now with having put 6k miles on it Being screwed just depends on how you look at it. Anything can be fixed given some funding and alittle bit of time and would probley be worth it in the long run providing your not depending on this car to be your daily driver at this moment. Sorry to hear about your troubles hope things work out.

I don't think the dealer did anything wrong. They sold you a car in "as is" condition, and it ran great for 6 months and 6000 miles. If it had a problem right away, then you might have a good case. FD engines typically go out with that mileage. Just get it fixed, and have fun with it when its done.

Yea I'd have to say its on you to do the research prior to purchasing the car. I bought mine and the seals went about 2 months later, but I had done the homework, and I was prepared for it.

You have to eat it, or sell it. I bet that extra $ for the warranty doesnt seem like so much in retrospect...

So far I have not seen any proof that there is a problem except for your assumptions. Nothing about boiling over through the overflow tank or higher than normal water temps.

Your quoted two facts are normal.

Condensation (whitest - creamy stuff in the oil cap) is normal even for a perfect engine when driving short distances even in warm weather.

Oil is thin, my 10-30 oil is always thin. Even 20-50 oil when older is thin.

All I have read is newbie inexperince with this car, and your fears.

It is evident that you are not adult enough for this car and the requirements to maintane it.

I would agree with the above...
Have you changed the oil ? (Should have changed it twice in 6 months even with low mileage! Have you had it looked at by someone who knows rotary's? I would stop stressing until then.

I wouldnt say your not adult enough...but you sound like you definately need help to find out what IS actually wrong...

I would reccomend posting in the West forum. There are a lot of good guys there who could reccomend a rotary shop you could take it to. That way, you can get an idea of what this car is like and you can learn a lot.

when buying used cars, "you pays your monies and you takes your chances!"

your luck that the dealer even offered a warrenty. it really is too bad that you didnt take this oppturnity to buy it though. oh well, live and learn.

P.S. i would suggest you to buy 2 video from rotaryaviation.com about how to rebuild a rotary engine and how to pull and reinstall a fd 13brew. since its only your orings (well hopefully), you can fix it for relativly cheap amount.

There is no indication from what you posted that there is anything wrong with the engine.

Search the forum for preventive maintenance stuff to do to a car you just got. Definitely change the oil and filter (you probably haven't changed it since you got it 6000 miles ago and 3000 miles is the normal change interval on FD oil due to normal fuel dilution, etc.), flush the coolant and change the antifreeze (50-50 with distilled water). Change the fuel filter.

FD oil pressure senders are flaky. You may only have a bad sender if the oil pressure reads low.

Good luck.

Sounds like you can't afford the car.. maybe you should sell lit and buy something cheap and reliable.
