I sucked at the Drag Strip yesterday

Well my car is stock.
staged it up to 3k rpms and dropped the clutch....I spun. I watched the opponents, grab & launch. I hit 94mph Trap Speeds, but at 15 sec. flat. I then revved it up to 3k rpms again... tried to feather it and bogged like a mug. I only got 3 runs in (it was busy) and Im thinking of launching at 2k rpms instead.
any suggestions?

What kind of tires?

I think you should at least get a downpipe to a) help out performance wise and b) get the under hood temps down a little. Then look into either eliminating or replacing the AST and getting an aluminum radiator. These will help to ensure you keep your engine a little longer.

As for driving, your trap speeds are a little slow probably because you spun out at the start. I would think feathering it would help but evidently not...hmmm...stickier tires always helps

Dude, don't worry about it. I ran a 14.7 my first time, and I have mods. Talk about embarrassing. Try 2,700 rpm. Try a little less air pressure in the rear tires. Were you getting any wheel hop, because that in itself will kill your times.
Thank god I managed to beat everyone i've raced against. They totally get scared when they se me line up next to them. I intimidate them into screwing up their launch. My best time to date is a 13.4, and that is still slower than I should be. I'm getting insane wheel hop, so I'm not going back until I get the Petit launch kit. I beat an NSX with that 13.4 though.

2700 is perfect for me...i generally run 2.0 60' time on stock tires...
also i think your arent making good power as your trap speed seems alittle low....are you getting good boost?

HeartTreated,

Really don't feel bad...our FDs have many problems with wheel hop. Try this to minimize some of the wheel hop:

1) Get some real nice tires...ei..Proxes T1-s or F-1(s)
2) Lower your back tire pressure to about 20lbs
3) Get some aftermarket toe-links and trailing arms

Or if worse come to worse...go straight to some street drag radials. And launching at 3k-3.5k has been the most ideal for me. Goodluck and keep is posted.

Don't drop the clutch slip it ever so slightly when leaving the line. Dumping the clutch will do 1 of 3 things (maybe more)

Dump clutch, wheelspin
Dump clutch, bog
Dump clutch, break parts

If you slip the clutch, especially a stock clutch becareful, it might heat up and keep slipping. You really don't need to slip it much.

Yeah, I wheel hopped bad one one trip down the 1/4. I had the tire pressure at 25lbs. Ill try it at 20lbs next.
I will launch at 2500 next and feather it too. thanks for the tips.. Ill be better prepared next time.

I had the m2 trailing arms and it didn't seem to help me at all.... I'll have to try it again with them installed. I went for the first time this last weekend with Batmobile and a few others, and now I have a VERY lumpy idle, a broken coolant overflow tank, and low vaccuum while idling... It reminds me of the saying :

"Practice makes perfect, but practice also breaks things"

Wow, you guys rev it really low...I rev to like 4k and dont get any wheel hop (I get wheel hop shifting into second though), and not much spinning ethier. On the gtech my 0-60 were 4.9-5.1...I cant see how you guys can go anywhere reving that low..I was running low low 13.4s that night..

And yes, the guy who tought my trapspeeds were low... Im only hitting 5psi on the secondary turbo. It was running 9psi just weeks ago but of course I need to check the vacuum lines now. That explains some of my problem

actually that explains alot..a stock fd should hit mid 13s with a good driver....13.3-13.7 is acceptable to me.

Get some ET streets, looooong smoky burn out, rev to limiter, slip the clutch a little, dump clutch from there, then hold on!!! whooohoooo...

(oh, then get ready to buy some parts cause **** breaks if you do that too many times...hahah, but sure is fun!!!)

I remember a post from JimLab that disconnecting the rear sway bar helps.

Yeah, I was about to go racing today. Instead I'll just watch. I have an ast and I wanna get that downpipe first.

My advice is to just try real hard to focus your attention away from your opponent. When your at the line, the adrenaline just kicks in and you wanna beat them, so you instinctively step on the gas and floor it. Thats what gets people sometimes.
