I ripped the bladder out of the beast. {a fuel filter saga by rob dahm}

So, i got cocky considering i ordered 6AN fittings and a flare tool (OH YEAH 37degs) For people reading this thread for technical data, i ordered:

summit racing flaring tool
6AN Nut
6AN Tube sleeve

and 5/16 stainless steel weave fuel line.

So i was making a YouTube video about the placement of the fuel filter and i got courageous. Im ripping this MF'er out tonight.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wghgEinr7nE

BUT, i remembered i had ordered tons of 6AN stuff so i decided to convert the rear part of the fuel line (From the pump to the long runner under the car) to the stainless weave with AN connections.

I measured 2x and cut once. Only problem was, no fuel came out of the line when i cut it....

I cut the charcoal canister line lol. If you see the three lines running under your car, the line closest to the drivers side of the car is fuel feed line, the middle is return and the one closest to the passenger side is charcoal canister. (This is on my 93 MAY NOT be the same for you)

Anyways, its worth a chuckle from the forum and i still got my job done. dont have the solenoid for the canister anyways so its somewhat useless.

I bet that im the only person who has enjoyed the entire process of removing my fuel filter. of course, my method isnt traditional.

It doesnt look like it has been changed in years. Ive owned the car from 80k to 110k miles.

diff mounts are easy to replace. getting the dif back in the car is the problem.

huge pain in the ***, I did about 300 sets of 10 bench before it got back in (probably 90lbs?)

that is too funny. I'd almost just rather cut the lines, re-route and just f*@king leave it there.

Good job for you and patience!

Just for Dave I'm gonna get a short vid on the line cuttage. I'll also post the an fitting etc. It's actually pretty sexy. I think of the canister cut as an omen. I can run parallel fuel feed lines lol. Not happening anytime soon.

Man, I still don't know why people go through so much problem for the fuel filter. I can change a stock FD fuel filter in 15-20 minutes. It all comes down to having the right tools - small pliers and hose pliers to pull the hose back off the filter.

Considering you do it so rarely, the time I'd take relocating it I could change the stock one again 2-3 times in the future. Big deal.

Diff mount really isn't too bad. Take out the PPF (that's most of the work there), unbolt the diff from the chassis and let it hang by the half shafts. Get doubled-up wrenches on the top bolts, break 'em loose, there's your diff mount. Press in/out the bushings (have a shop do that if you don't have a press) and bolt it back on. You don't have to totally take the diff out of the car, that just makes more work.

Dale

You can try to defend the location all day long, but it still sucks ***. The filter needs to be relocated, period...and, in my opinion, upgraded.

Considering you do it so rarely
I change mine every 5k miles, I wouldn't call that "rare". Of course, I'm running an ultra fine 10 micron Aeromotive filter which catches alot of crap (and keeps it out of my injectors).
