I'd be weary of any automatic FD's with lots of rice mods. It's usually an indicator of a poorly maintained FD.

[edit]FD = 3rd generation RX-7[/edit]

Looks like aquamonsters FD painted black!

I wouldn't buy it because I think it's ugly. But other than that, how much can we tell from an Autotrader ad? Not much.

Tell the guy before you buy it you want to take it to a shop and have it checked out...compression test, etc. If he gives you any pushback then he might be hiding something.

It's a good idea to have any used car checked over by a competent mechanic before purchase.

yup i agree with the compression test and the boost test. the turbo test simply comprises of making sure that you hit 10psi boost before and after 4500 rpm (on third gear). between 4000 rpm and 4500rpm it will drop.

but honestly, even 17000 is too much for the car. a year ago i got a 93 with 54000 miles ago. the car had a much better looking body kit (99 oem bumper and rear spoiler, ememiya side skirts, racing sparco steering wheel, catback, it was MANUAL, aftermarket beautiful wheels, and pirelli 270 tires) and it cost me 17600. if i were you i would offer 15000 to this guy if not less.

but definitely get the compression and boost test.

Don't let your eagerness for a third gen interfere with your good judgment. Wait until a better one comes along. It will, and will likely be much cheaper. This guy thinks he's got himself a sucker.
