I need a new radiator. :-( anything else?

ok, so I cracked my radiator...... how sad for me.... so probably going with a koyo.....

and going to use the stock fans...... and may run a different temp fan switch with a master switch for fun so i can get it to kick in a little sooner...

I am ALSO going to replace both coolant hoses, and the thermostat (mazda factory) both the caps and AST have been replaced....

(among replacing my belts)

but anything else you can think of I should work on while I'm down there? Also who has the best deal in cali for the koyo radiator?

Get a Power FC and set the fans to cut on at a cooler temp or whenever you want.

page3racing took my offer for 250$ on ebay. brand new radiator came to less than 300 dollars shipped, so far it works great.

You can't do it with the PFC alone, there's no option in the Commander to change temps to switch the fans on. A datalogit is needed to make change those settings.

You might also check these out:

They're pretty cheap and I've heard nothing but good comments about them.

Use the FC thermoswitch. Screws right in w/o need to modify the wiring. Dale Clark had posted the correct part number iirc.

Belts and new hoses are a good idea. So is the thermostat - so long as it is new OEM Mazda.

Koyo is good but so is the Fluidyne or the Mazdacomp. The Koyo is thicker and takes a bit more work to make it fit.

Only other thing I would suggest is either getting some thick foam to block the sides of the radiator or some ducting. Here are some good pics from Crispy regarding ducting: http://reganrotaryracing.tripod.com/radiate.htm
Others just stuff the sides with some thick foam from home depot. check the FAQs or Search for more info.

I don't quite understand how someone thinks a PFC is something to think about when upgrading a radiator....

duh But there are plenty of people that would let you borrow a datalogit for simple changes such as "fan cut on". The PFC is a good invest regardless of having a datalogit or not.

well, if people have had problems making it fit..... it means I will..... the ducting thing I was already looking into..... I'm considering ditching my AC cause I never use it and don't want to wear on the car..... but it's no big deal if I keep it in there...
I will look into the foam, and that thread.

PFC if something I want, but not right now......

I DO need to figure why the hell it blew in the first place..... it seems I'm not bleeding properly out of my AST, I wonder if the cap is a high PSI than it should be... it's the one that came with my ebay AST... I'll swap it out for a factory...

Try Turbo Import Racing. I bought my fluidyne radiator from them and i was really happy with all there support, prices and sale service.

Their website: http://www.turboimport.com/

I would also suggest you to replace all hoses (if i'm not mistaken there are about 14 hoses in all). For original Mazda hoses with good prices i'll suggest Mazdatrix (http://www.mazdatrix.com/)

Good luck!

Because of this statement:

Helping control cooler temps and montoring them is a small benefit the PFC offers. He's talking about having the fans kick in sooner and since the PFC is already a good investment for all sorts of tuning then it would help him in the area of cooling as well.

I think the stock ECU has the fans cutting on around 100 degress celsius and you can make the PFC cut them on at 85 degrees celsius. 15 degrees is a lot when considering water temps and how fast those temps can cool. Just a thought.

Not up front but just as important if not more...the fuel filter. Replace it with a OE Mazda one.

Talking

Samco makes a set. Nice quality pieces. I would just go OE though, unless you like the pretty blue color.
