I need help - please help me and give me some ideas to what it could be

Hi peeps,

I have a 93 Rexi, still running the twin turbo set up!

Basically i'm in need of suggestions to what could be wrong with her! She over heated in the space of 2 - 3 mins and since has not started! She has had a rebuild done and i constantly check fluid levels and change oil every 2000 km!

The temp of her rocketed in the space of 2 -3 mins and since havent been able to start her!! What could be the cause of this????

I need help/suggestions to what to try!!

Please any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!!!

Need a list of mods done to the car. How long ago was the rebuild? What were you doing when it over heated? Notice any strange signs other than the temp going up, like noises or anything?

Once it's cooled down a bit, carefully relieve the pressure and check the coolant level to make sure it's still in there.

If your thermostat is stuck closed you'd get inadequate coolant flow to the radiator which would cause overheating.

Check your water pump belt pulley/belt and make sure it's still operational.

She is standard, no mods whats so ever... well actuall, the only thing that has been changed is that she has been de-limited and converted to mph! The rebuild was done 2006 and since then has only done 7500 miles. I was just driving her back normally, not giving her any toe and the coolant warning light and siren came on and before i could pull over was of the scale! Got a road side mechanic out who said it was a head gasket( which i beleive they dont have) and when i tried to start her up she blew all the water out of the rads (had the caps offf to see if there was fluid in there). Really annoyed by this and just want her back and running!!

she is fully cooled down now as havent been able to start her for about a week now! where can i find the thermostat to see if it is stuck??

I will check to see if the water pump belt / pully is rotating still and not restricted in anyway!

Thanks and if you have any other ideas please let me know!

the thermostat is inside the housing with the rad cap off. You need to remove teh bolts around it (4 i belive) and you'll see it.

I'm sure one of the rebuilders on the board, like Rich (GoodfellaFD3S), would be able to accommodate you and your friend.

does the car crank over( does the starter turn the engine), good place to start, check all the pedigree stuff, battery voltage, check for spark, check for fuel, these are all easy things to check, it sounds like u have blown apex seals, I have met soneone with blown seals and for the life of them the car would crank over forever and never start. Check for compression too, if you have no compression then that is a dead giveaway, from what I read and here its not difficult to ruin the seals.

If the coolant warning light came on, you probably had a coolant leak causing the overheat. Did your AST crack open and dump coolant or did a coolant hose blow out? Any puddles under the car?

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but that makes me think the inner coolant ring is gone.
I think that your engine's compression is now leaking into the cooling system and pushing all the water out the rad. Might want to do a leak down check on the cooling system, or a compression check on the engine. That would tell you. But if water is coming out of the rad, there's something pushing it out - and if the car is cold, it's not the steam pressure....

I dont think a hose has blown of nor a crack! nope no puddles under the car either! I'm possibly thinking that i have a blockage from the expansion tank as this was full and the rads were a litle empty but not completely!

drove to my local shopping centre and all was fine, no warning light come on for the whole journey (about 15 miles). was shopping for about 5 - 6 hours, and then drove home. so the engine had fully cooled down, within 5 minutes i was off the scale and since havent been able to start her. does turn over with no sound to indicate anything seizing. there was no noises from the engine when over heating either.

Disregard pincusa's post, I don't think he realized you had the cap off of the radiator. Of course fluid will come out if you don't have the system capped.

try what I recommended in the first post, best way to go is process of elimination, hard to pin point it first try, we could guess here all week, so when you get the chance, start with the easy stuff, I am guessing apex seals or like dgeesaman said the coolant seal ring, leaking compression. feel free to pm me or keep posting whatevas
