Ive been having nothing but bad luck,w my 7. I must have one of the worst one out there mechanically. Exterior is awesome, but it's in the shop too much, and my shop is an hour and half drive one way,so finding riding there and back is a pain. Well i purchased a 93 SS touring with a new Remain and a aftermarket Warranty, from a one owner with all records and said the reason why it has a new engine is from a engine fire! Well the new engine and warranty sold me the car,an the car is stock with 60,000 miles for 15,000. Well first of all i did all fluid changes, tune up,and alignment. Then sh*t started!I'ved owned my car for one year and 6 months and this is my luck.

Man thats some major problems. I think that guy sold it not because of engine fire but due to fact that he could tell the future so he got rid of it. Hey I havent had major problems with my car but I admire your out look. It will run good one day once you get all the kinks out of it...Godd Luck!

Ok, I feel better.. I thought I had problems with my until I read that post...
What's up with the turbos? Didn't the get replaced with the remanufactured engine?
Also, who is going the work?
Once I stopped taking mine to a Mazda dealer, I found out that I didn't have as many problems with the car... Mazda seems to damage more than they fix.
I found another shop local that is very good with rotaries and they do a great job. Fixed up everything Mazda tore up.

I couldn't imagine having to pay car payment and insurance and shop payments that add up to that,in that amount of time, every month and never being able to catch back up!

Well i've have been taking my car to a mazda dealer, but i've looked into the one mechanic that is their rotary mechanic, and heard nothing but good news. He goes to national comps and places first and second, and i've talked to other 3rd gen owners and they all have good reviews. There's like close to twenty 3rd gen that go there. I think it's not the mechanic, its the parts be used,All the new parts are remain. parts. I had the warranty and they supplied the turbos, i didn't get a choice,i was just happy they were gonna replace it and it came with a 12/12 warranty on it. Same with engine and tranny. If i had extra cash to upgrade i would but,it's breaking me. I just hope it stops, i think i'm close to getting there, though!

My list goes like this:
Sep 14th 2001
Main Turbo Gasket
Vacuum lines
Jan 22 2002
Antenna mast
plugs and wires
intake sensor
March 20th
Radiator
Had my car almost a year and these are my only problems so far. I consider myself lucky, I do oil change and coolant flush every 2k, and keep my car (performance wise) all stock = no headaches. Looking forward to the RX-8 to have a NEW Rotary powered car, think about it NEW!

SilverImage,
I had a few oil leaks this last fall. It took Mazda 3 months to get all the leaks fixed, and they still broke a bunch of other stuff in the process.
If I was anywhere near FL, I would be looking Pettit up. Unless it's warranty work, it might be worth the trip even if Pettit is a little travelling distance from you.

your problems, if I read correctly, are mostly due to:
Reman engine.
This is only as good as the person doing the reman. Lots of people like to go the MANA motor route because its cheap, but I personally think IMHO that its a hit or miss proposition *especially* with oil leaks. Sounds like a lot of your problems have come from here. Save up and shell out for a good reman from a trusted name.
Aftermarket alarm.
Aftermarket alarms are junk for the most part. And most times unless the installer knows what they are doing they can do more harm than good. Ever wonder why everybody is now insensitive to car alarms going off? That's right, junk aftermarket alarms.
Power door locks?
Aftermarket power door locks on the driver door? If so, that's a problem. I'd like to install one as well, but I've heard nothing but problems.
Driver error.
Oh well, **** happens. Next time don't let your tires go too bald, especially if you live where it rains/snows.
Also:
You replaced the radiator twice? in the space of 4 months? Why? Good radiators don't just leak, even the stock one will last like 70-80k miles before starting to go.
And you also replaced your ECU/PCM twice. Why?
And your transmission twice. What's the deal? Can't shift correctly?
Main cat twice. Geez. I haven't heard of a main cat under 90k miles clogging up unless the pre-cat takes it out.
Misc problems:
Some of that's going to happen if the car is a daily driver and you're not babying it. Learn to work on your car, it doesn't take a dealer and a few hundred dollars in labor to replace stuff like a cigarette lighter or window switch.
Last but not least:
Do NOT go to the dealer for work unless you know that the mechanic there is good. They'll mess up your car even worse than when you brought it in. And charge you these exorbitant amounts. $2k for a new A/C comp & radiator R&R? You could probably have bought someone's used A/C compressor and sprung for a new aftermarket radiator and have that all R&R'ed for less than $1k.

Jumprdude,
Yeah i agree about the remain parts, but it was coverd on the aftermarket warranty, and it's not like the warranty allows me to choose a high dollar engine andi don't have the extra amount cash to cough up at that point.
The tranny went out because the aftermarket alarm was feeding off the tanny.I have a automatic, and the hold button would be flashing the whole time. So the warranty covered th tranny, installd it and it wasn't shifting right,so we thought we had a bad tranny, put another one in and it did the same thing,so we replaced the PCM,and still same problem, then found it was the alarm!
The other ECU was like a recall they told me,which was covered for stalling problems
And the radiator,i had the warranty, but an adjuster came down and said it was repairable,so the fixed it,then a month or so later,it leaked again and got replaced.
Half the problems i caused, because i stomped on the gas ever chance i had, cause i knew it was under waranty, and if it was gonna break,i wanted it to break while it's covered. In reciepts i have close to 20,000,but i'm sure i've only paid like 4,000.And i have a newly rebuilt car,but it does bother me,that's always in the shop.
