I made the most stupid mistake and it popped.

So if you've seen the 3rd gen. FS section recently, I've been looking for a new engine. Well that's because when I installed my new boost controller and then went to set it, I set the warning at 12psi, yet set the limiter at only 4%. In my defense, I had stayed up all night to work on the car in the morning and I was tired. The how-to I was reading on tuning the boost controller mentioned setting it at 4% to be safe. Well 4% isn't very safe when you spike to 20psi. My idle is really choppy and my vacuum reading is low. She's hard to start up, yet will drive and still make boost surprisingly. I checked the MAP sensor, just to make sure, and it was fine. So now I'm hunting for a streetported motor and someone to install it for me because I know I'm not experienced enough to deal with the vacuum system on this car.

A few unscrupulous people have whispered in my ear about LS1's. So far, I am resisting the urge. Felix Wankel our father, pray for me.

That sucks. I've made a few mistakes of that nature but I always make it a point to stop working on my car once I'm tired so that things like this don't happen.

If the rest of your motor isn't bad, you might be better off getting Rotary Resurrection or Rich & Ihor to do the motor. I would find it difficult trusting anyone enough to buy a used motor.

Good luck.

LS1s are interesting in some ways but you'll be back on the road quicker and cheaper with a 13B.

Dude! Sorry to hear that! If you decide to take this on (taking in and out the motor) let me know if you want help! Or if you want help with anything else!

same thing kind of happened to me but i spiked to 16psi, twice - dont ask. It was shaky for a few days but that was about a year ago and it still runs and pulls fine to this day. I do have other motor issues but they were present before this happened. I am going to buy the hks evc 6 though, supposedly all you do is set how much psi you want to run and the controller does the rest.

I kicked around the idea doing an ls swap, but now that we started the rebuild, I am very happy I didn't do it.

I want a v8 swapped 7, but I just couldn't do it to this one.

that sucks man i feel for you. Do a compression check and good luck. On a side note while setting up a boost controller keep all the settings at the lowest and very slowly tune them in.

It never hurts to fill up th 100 unleaded or higher while playing w/ boost. Might have saved you.

Sorry, we all feel your pain. I was reading your other thread about installing the EBC and was wondering if we are supposed to connect to the "NO" port or "NC" port? Your picture shows the "NC" port being used but I thought we're supposed to use the "NO" port. The only reason I ask is because I'm installing my profec II this weekend and I don't want to connect to the wrong port and spike while tuning the boost controller. Question for gurus: can using the wrong port cause a spike or blown engine? thanks-bill

man sorry about that. I blew mine up cus I overboosted to 23 psi. Get a compression test before you buy a new motor. I'm fairly sure my motor is blown but I'm still having that done.

I'm begining to believe that one of the best mods is a pop-off valve set at a few psi above your max boost. Just for instances like these. $130 bucks is cheap insurance.
