I was wondering the same thing....
You might if;
a) You broke your shifter and needed ASAP and
b) Didn't have $400 for a Mazdaspeed or other short shifter.
For $25 bucks, you can't really go wrong with this one. My only concern is that it looks as if you have to replace the control case cover this ebay shifter. I've never taken mine apart but you can find the instructions and diagrams in the FSM.

shifter
i have one of those, i took it apart and cleaned all the crap grease out and replaced it with good grease. it works great. doesnt rattle and is nice and firm. you have to remove the four bolts on the housing that the shifter bolts into. you can reach them after you unscrew the shift *** and remove the plastic pannel, its just snaped inplace. it should look kind of like this after the pannel is removed, but will still have the console sides on and with out the shift *** on. also to make the stock boot match back up tight to the shift ***, you can go to a hardware store and get a collar with a screw in it that when tightened will stay inplace.

yes. its crazy how such a small thing can make the car feel more like a race car. when shifting you can feal it going into gear much better. also the shift to third is more strait forward, and shifts are shorter. when buying it i didnt realy car how much shorter the shift was. however, when driving it shifts seem to flow better. its almost feels like the rev's dont drop as much causing a better shift. although my experiace with the shifts could because i have a 9.5lb flywheel combined with the shifter.also the shifter i got had no welds. all the peices are billet or turned on a leathe.

i got the mazdatrix short shifter for way less than 400 bucks... easiest install ever and it came with all new bushings and whatnot. a friend of mine got an ebay shifter for his car and it snapped at the bottom because of crappy welding...

I personally had a similar design a few years ago (all the housings are very similar). It worked for a little while but kept breaking. The weakness with that design is the cheap springs and undersized spring disc caps they use to center the shifter on each side. The caps are suppose to keep the springs in place while putting so much tension on the shifter. Over time the caps would slip out causing the springs to move to much. When this happened the shifter would get very loose. I had to repair mine about 5 times over the 3 yrs I used that damn thing.

****! Its got a pic of the new GTR, that means it must be a good product!
+1 on how the hell do you break the shifter. I've always preferred stock over any aftermarket shifter. Stock with new bushings feels great, doesn't rattle, and is excellent Mazda OEM quality(). Plus they are really easy to find in the classifieds. I know preference is different from person to person, but sometimes its better to buy a used stock than a new aftermarket.
