I just became the newest member of the 3rd gen RX-7 club :)

Just bought me a '93 RX-7, red with tan leather, touring package. Has just shy of 60k miles on it, in pretty good condition. A few interior pieces need some love (driver door arm rest is kinda...loose, anyone know best place to get a new one?).

For quirks, it idles a little rough, and has a little bit of a searching idle till its warm, but I understand thats common? Also, when accelerating, the car smells like gas....like its running real rich.

Other than that stuff, its an excellent car, paints in pretty good condition...needs a wax though

Anyway, Im a n00b, but I learn fast, expect to see lots of questions by me lol. I do know how to use the search button though...most of the time (wewt).

Brace yourself for the pain and driving pleasure of owning a car designed in part by a non human supercomputer. As time goes on, you'll come to know what I mean.

Welcome aboard. Is the fuel smell coming from the tail pipe or the engine? The stock ECU is supposed to be pretty rich at WOT, but I never noticed a fuel smell.

Heh, thanks guys. I just had some pics taken with my friends digital cam, but it doesnt have a standard USB or firewire port, so he had to take it home to upload the pics to his computer. Ill post them when he emails me.

Ok...the car. Its a '93, red with tan leather, it has just shy of 60k miles, the interior is a little worn, but in pretty good condition all in all, externally, I think the previous owner/s lived on a gravel road or something, paint has quite a few chips in the front, all filled in though. I paid 13.9k. Car runs and idles just fine. Came with a built in compuSTAR alarm (which I dont really like) and a turbo timer. So far, I love it

Most definitely!

Congrats man, and enjoy your car! It's a love/hate relationship, but at the end of the day, you wouldn't want it any other way

You said it does some idle searching...what are the mods? Cuz it sounds like your FD has a Power FC aftermarket ECU...

As for the rich smell, that's common to all FDs I've ever been around w/ a freer exhaust. You should see my FD. You can get knocked out sitting in the passenger seat LOL...it's insane.

Congrats on the purchase. Did you research it at all before purchasing?

Congrats and welcome. Did your Fd come equipped with a boost gauge?? If not, please make that a priority.

Ohhhhh yeah, first mods Im getting will be an, if one is made (havent looked yet) a replacement A-pillar tripple gauge pod, with boost, EGT, and probably water temp. That is unless someone has a better 3 to get...

Yes, I researched the RX-7 before I bought, and know what Im getting into...well as well as someone whos never owned one can... :P

Autometer does make a triple gauge pod cover for the A-pillar, and boost & water temp are def. 2 of the 3 you have to have. EGT can help if your tuner uses it, or to give you an idea if you're running rich or lean
