Can you determine the model from the VIN? It makes sense, but I thought I read that you can't determine the model from the VIN.

I've seen FDs with leather, cruize, no rear wiper 2 oil coolers and a sunroof. I seriously think Mazda just haphazardly put some of them together... Or took whatever they had leftover from stockpile and just put **** together...

Being as though they guy lives on the other side of the state and I don't want to sound like a jackass asking him for his VIN just to prove myself right, I probably won't be getting that anytime soon.

I thought that it was a little strange as well, but I checked it out
no wiper
no cruise
no bose
both wings
both oil coolers
5 speed
silver
R2 seats
......factory sunroof
I don't know him well, but he doesn't seem like a chump and he knows what he is talking about, so I have no reason to doubt his claim that it is all factory original.
I think his forum name is ryan1

I'm not calling you a liar but Mazda just doesn't build cars like Chevy or Ford. I have a REALLY hard time believing that it is an R2.

PEPs don't have rear wiper or Bose and he could have removed the cruise easily. Adding the R1/R2 parts is pretty easy.

I've seen "wierd" option packages on other types of cars from the dealer. A friend of mine worked at a few dealerships, sometimes stuff gets stolen off the lot, the dealer just orders parts and puts it back together and STILL sells it as new. Sometimes the car turns into something it wasn't. Different wheels, seats, etc. I dunno if this happened to this guys car but I really doubt that it is a factory R2 with sunroof.

Edit:

If it was from Canada originally then all bets are off. I'm referring to US models only. CYM cars were available in Canada as Base models, I'm sure option packages were available in other countries that were different from the US market as well.
