If you indeed have an RX-7 fuel comsumption shouldn't be a high prority on your list, lol. And switching to a single turbo, a T78 or T88, will bring it down even further. Don't worry about stupid miles-per-gallon, that's a hybrid Prius to worry about, not a high performance rear-wheel drive turbocharged sports car lol.

After I just did my pillow ball bushings and toe links the last couple weeks I would recommend everybody with over about 75k miles do that as a high priority. After 2 weeks every time I hop in I am still amazed at how improved the handling is. I would say:
down pipe $2-300
radiator $400
Pillow ball bushings and toe links $300
Do all the work yourself and learn about the car.
and save the last $1k for anything enexpexted that comes up. Believe me, something will come up when you least expect it.

[threadjack] Hey Tom, for the pillow ***** and toe links, that price is for parts only, correct? How difficult is the install? Do you need special tools?

I'm in the same boat as you are. Here's my list of mods for under $1000: Service Manual, Downpipe, Hose Techniques kit, AST, Speed Bleeders, and Fumoto oil drain valve, oil pan gasket (got a leak ).=$785.00

Next is a Y-pipe, boost gauge, and Water temp.

Yeah, that price is for parts only. The pillow ***** took me about 3.5 hours to do and the toe links probably 3 hours because I had to find a machine shop to press those bushings out. the time to find a machine shop to get the old bushings out.

For pillow ***** I used the ball joint press rented from Autozone. That didnt work on the toe links. The shop I found cut the bushings out of the toe links. No other special tools required. Actually I think lug wrench, 14mm socket, and 14mm wrench is all you need (along with jack and stands).

I would imagine the time it took me to be on the faster end of things, but I wouldnt expect to add any more thang 50% more time to any of those estimates unless you run into serious unexpected problems. I bet a shop would rape you and charge around $1000 for labor. My friend has access to the program that the shops use to estimate job completion times and the pillow ***** alone are about 5.5 hours if I remember correctly.

Do a search on "maxcooper pillow ball", his web site has directions but he uses sockets, nuts, and bolts to make a press.

Hey guys. Im lookin for just what washabi is lookin for. I dont want a monster, but id be more than happy with around 300RWHP. Ive read that its perfectly doable, but havent found a good path to gettin it done. Anybody feel like puttin a short list of the necessary mods to get there?
And were assuming that were both good boys that did the maintanence on the car before we get started playin. With the reliability mods taken care of, what few pieces of performance parts would it take to make close to 300RWHP?

First off congrats on the rx7. If its your daily driver I would use the $1,000 to buy a cheap second car. Once that bug hits you'll be working on it your self all the time and it would be nice not to have to hurry to pit it back together before work the next day.

If you want 310-325 at the wheels you can achieve this with your stock twins with a little more boost and supporting mods. I put down 317WHP on a mustang dyno with 14PSI and the mods you see on my sig so it is achievable. I went non-sequential because my sequential wasn't working properly but if the sequential works I would suggest leaving it be.

Great advice! But I must say I especially love the part where you are answering to a guy that was seeking advice in 2004!
