I Hate FD's but I LOVE my TR-01

I had a strange idling problem with my FD. The car started fine but had a "miss" to it. Everyone else said the engine sounded fine but *I* knew something was wrong. Poor mans compression test was inconclusive and testing with a standard compression tester is a pain in the ***. This is the car idling:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFY1prfsmgc

Tested the rear rotor with the TR-01:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl-STPyPfG0

Tested the front rotor with the TR-01:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKMLSGKR-LU

... and there you go. Effed up compression in the front rotor and not so hot rear compression. My car is such a bitch. I hate it. Anyhoo - the TR-01 saved my life! Thanks TwistedRotors! You kept me from slicing my wrists or walking blindfolded into oncoming traffic! Its bad news - but no more guessing, right?

My tester is better, it standardizes the readings to 250 rpm

How did your motor blizzow?

Dammit... which reader to YOU have?

This is a purchase I don't really need.... but we all know how gizmos and gadgets seem to catch the racoon-esque attention of car-obsessed males.

I think this tester is great. Its small, easy to use (no laptop or big azz box to lug around), and one guy can use it. It came with the chart to standardize the readings - and I'm cool with that. Point is, I was looking at ingition, fuel, and every other idea I could come up with. The tester just saved me lots of troubleshooting time and guessing.

Road Dog, my motor was 116,000+ miles (odometer stopped a few months ago) and original. I don't have the slightest idea WHAT happened.

Wow 116k might be the record for original engine.

Btw that compression tester is awesome. Now people wont have excuses of NOT knowing the correct compression reading for their engines.

I might pick one up from TR.

I'm just getting around to finishing up my car to get it running and would love to be able to monitor my compression during the break in. Is there an affordable route to go?

Buy it, sell it when you're done. It costs depreciation.

Unfortunately it seems to be the exception and not the rule. I agree, nice tester.

Nah, the guys at RP/rx7.com have seen an original motor on a near-stock car last ~160,000 miles before it gave up the ghost.

shoot. I bought a FD a few years ago that had over 130K miles on the original motor, the key was that it was bone stock and well taken care of. Of course the motor blew up on the track, the heat just killed it..

Hey, I recognize that tester! I kinda feel like the Harbinger of Doom though.
Can't wait to see the numbers on your new engine!
