I got my RX-7!

I just got my RX-7 delivered! It is awsome! However I have to leave it at the transmission shop tonight and I can't be with it. I am getting up in the morning to go check it out some more!

I got it and started it up and it went up to 3000 rpm's in park. It is at the transmission shop so I am hoping it isn't the motor!

i believe mazda put that in as the warm up period. it is normal for it to rev up and start at 3k rpm and slowly go down and settle to its normal idle speed.

if you have a manual transmission, to avoid this start it up in gear. put it in first and hold the clutch in and start it. don't forget to keep the clutch in or else you'll stall. give it ~10 seconds then you can put it in neutral and release your clutch. some people believe mazda putting the 3k rpm warm-up period is not good for the engine and so people found this method to get around it.

btw it should only go through this warm-up period only if the carm isnt warmed up... heh

I think the 3000rpm when you turn the key on is cause by the auto warm up sensor. Its normal if it can drop to 800rpm after few minutes.

I started it and I thought the engine was going to blow! I heard a grinding sound also but I am pretty sure that it came from the transmission. Thanks for the help!

to override the AWS on start-up, just start the car in gear, instead of neutral... just don't forget to hold the clutch in

As everyone else said, that's just warm up. Relax and drive the car, they're no fun when you're worrying about every little thing.

It is a 1993 Silverstone Metallic touring edition with red leather interior. It has 55,811 miles! I was looking it over more this morning to figure out how to open the gas tank. Which after I read the owner's manual i figured it out. It is down then right. I opened it and now I can't close it because the little lip that should retract didn't and the fuel door won't catch. Anyone else have this problem?

Congrats on the car.
Take good care of it; learn through it and you will eventually be a better driver...

ObliqueFD: I've got a 93 Auto also. Don't worry bout the 3K rev at start up. It's meant to do that to warm the pre-cat. If your car's pre-cat has been replaced with a downpipe (DP), then just bump the gas pedal at start up and the rpm's will drop immedietely. Good Luck. Your quest for a perfect FD is about to start!!.

Are you sure bumping the gas pedal is Ok? The owner before me not to do that because it could flood the engine. Could it?
