i found out what killed my engine 2 years ago...
so, i blew a water seal in the engine. It started to smoke and eat abit of water, and on its last journey, it blew a turbo coolant hose....
Heres my coolant filler, the red circled pipe was blocked...
im in the process of rebuilding my engine, and throw in all the needed and wanted upgrades, witch cost a ton of money over here in norway, and made me put my original project car on hold for a couple of years...
Today, i was going through the old stripped down engineparts bolted to the longblock, sorting em, cleaning em, cleaning out the interior...
and does someone wanna guess what small round 7dollar 99 item i found under the carpet on the passenger side...?

Was the item you found under the carpet on the passenger side made of rubber?
I think this is the second engine posted this weak that had some sort of line or hose fail causing the engine to die.

Close, but no sigar. You are on to something though.
Ill throw in another hint.
A few weeks before the engine gave up, the coolant hose going from the dashboard to the pipe on the torpedowall behind the engine (small curved, aproxx 10 cm) started to leak, and got replaced. I let the air out of the coolant system, but dunno if i got it all...
the item i found underneath the carpet on the passenger side is made of metal, rubber, and has a spring in it....

Thermostats dont blow waterseals due to pressure
Also, i have looked around my garage everywhere for the AST, and cant find it... and looking at old pictures, i cant see it fitted to the car as well, so the car was
AST-less, witch should work fine as long as you do it right...
Is that a smoking gun i see in the distance?

Waterlever sensor, i broke. The copper is exposed and eroded, so it broke off when i removed the filler unit. just screwed it between the sensor and metal to know where i have it
But ye.... 10 points to Barry Bordes....
The car had no AST.... And, as you can see from the filler-unit... its a solid cap, not a springed oveflow-unit... The previous owner "lost" the old filler cap and fitted one he prolly had laying around..... and that killed off my engine(waterseal).... a 7 dollar 99cent lazyass fnuckup...
I knew nothing bout rotiaries before i bought this, i didnt know it was an AST on em either... or that this car didnt have one...
And this... is what i found underneath my passenger carpet, up by the ECU, behind the cover there.......
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.........
/10 sad pandas....

One option you could use is an 87 pressure relief type flange on the housing if you want to eliminate the AST.
