i feel like giving up.

well after a year of working on my car i'm getting frustrated and just want to drive already but i'm really far from that. the car is ready to go into primer right now but i am probably going to part it and buy one together already. i owe 3000 on it right now and here is what it looks like as of today. i have everything for this car to run and put back together nothing is missing.

how much do you think i can get from parting?
mods-
rotary extreme trailing and end links
brembo rotors
full black interior
racing beat sway bar
gr-2 shocks with racing beat springs
i have a motor but i think it is going to go soon (12xxxx miles)
unorthodox main pulley
greddy elbow
ebay front mount
derling bushings
adr kasai wheels
apexi catback
m2 downpipe

Man....not to rain on your parade but yeah....this SEEMS a classic example of just getting in over your head.

Good luck with whatever you do, but...we all know a complete car is worth several times the sum of its parts (usually).

Other than taking longer than you wanted, is that the main drawback? since you have all the parts, just the time to get it done is dragging out to long for you since you want to drive one? I say stick with it, get it done, then enjoy it or sell it.

yeah dude, if you can, just take a break from it for a bit, come back, finish it, and you'll surely be happy you finished it.

When I get into this rut, admittedly not as deep as you appear to be, I leave the car for a week and focus on other things (work, friends, chilling out etc). Then when I feel ready, I sit down, get out a pen and paper and write down a list of things that I need to do and in what order. Then I get started and stick to the list

It really makes it clear and easy to focus then, and when you have a measurable list to compare progress with, it really feels like you can see the end.

The trick is to not deviate from the tasks set out.

If you really feel you need to sell it, could you reassemble it as much as you can to get it more saleable?

you have everything you need to assemble the car??? have you ever had the car runnign? its easy to lose interest when you forget what its like to have the car... mines been down since nov and sometimes i ahve to force myself to work on the car... but the good spirit of friends and rx owners keep me going... picking up the car tomorrow for its final touch and custom exhaust =)

if u are mechanically knowledgable and have some helping hands go with it, its 100X more satisfying completing your car yourself
- goodluck with whatever you do!

You should definitely stick it out

Unless...you want to sell me the rotors for $100 then definitely part it out.

I'll sell you some new front brembo rotors for 100 shipped

As far as the OP goes nobody can answer this question but you because we don't know what your goals are or how much money you'd like to invest etc...? Figure out which direction you're headed by looking at other cars for sale. If it was me I'd part it because that's what I do with junk FDs while others like to fix them up. I prefer collecting the little bit I can from beat cars and buying very nice low mileage ones to run around town in. Hell if one of my cars even looks at me funny I'll part it out

i say keep going, dont quit! ultimately its your choice tho, my car has been down for a year as well because of new things i am doin to it. just like you ive been frustrated, anxious, and impatient since im waiting to hit the roads in it again. ive had to wait for parts, put up with delays, im too busy to get it running (as are my friends) etc. i sometimes think about just giving up too but then i figure all that BS i had to go through would be for nothing if i did. just my 2c

I also say keep going. You are going to realize that once you get it "done", you will most likely want to do more with it. Its just what happens when you get a car like this.

Keep going
Being frustrated is no way to make a decision like this
You will regret it later.

If you were to test the market in its current condition I would guess you would get aroud $3k as a whole package. That is one rough sad looking fd even by todays standards.

make it an unemotional decision. forget about what you've spent, how much can you sell it for?
4-5k? how much would you need to spend? looks to me like 4-5 k. In the current market completed running decent cars are 12-14k......... I'd sell it and save for a good car personally, imo

I just wanted to add if you have kids and a wife then part it out for sure. Ever since we had are first child i have had no time to work on my car and am just focusing on getting it drivable and leaving it alone.

Actually i was in the same perdicament as you with my 86 corrola with a 20v. I parted it out and gave away the shell and came out all right. You will get over the connection to the car, still cant believe a gave up the corolla ha oh well.

Looking at the pic shows how much time, money and DEDICATION you need to get it in pristine condition.

Looking at your first post, shows you dont have that. Even though you said you had been working on it for a year. You really need time and patience. A project this big can go for years (depending on your budget and time).

I suggest selling everything and buying a complete one.

And i say 3-5k for all that.
