Not much else to say but wtf!? Spitting gray smoke at redline. Gonna try tunning, replacing all filters, vac hoses, rear brake pads. Stock motor is pretty old too (108k original). Hmm... Wonder if I'm forgetting anything...

how about some vacuum lines. As long as your turbo's aren't blowing oil, lots of oil, then almost sure your vacuum lines are to blame

heh, if only i knew. POS boost gauge quit on me last thursday (did the dyno Saturday). Haven't gotten another one yet. Prior to dyno boost pattern seemed normal though.

Boost problem is the culprit. Vacuum lines could be the cause but more likely it is a problem with a solenoid or acuator.

108K miles doesn't really matter much, rotaries usually work fine until they don't work at all.

doesn't the 13b minus the turbos put down something like 180whp, or is it like 150whp without the turbos?

the engine is similar to the 2nd gen which put out 160 HP to the flywheel. the FD has lower compression i guess. probably 150 HP without the turbos. no way it makes 180 without turbos.

BTW...if you have 108K on the original engine, STICK A FORK IN IT, ITS DONE!!

I also have another question:

if the car wasn't running right...why did you spend all the money doing a dyno??? Why not get the boost guage fixed first?

89-91 FC's use 9:1 compression as do FD's.

89-91 Turbo II's have 9:1 compression, the N/A models had 9.7:1 compression.

Asphyxia02:

My first dyno run ever was 178 rwhp. It was because the coupling on the hot side of the intercooler had slipped a fraction of an inch. Reclamped the coupling and put down 240 rwhp on the next run (d/p and cat-back at 10 psi).

yea the coupler is a vital part of the intake system, can cause a MAJOR boost leak, I would know i was only running 2~3lbs because of it

Ok, I just took the FD out for a spin, now (as opposed to yesterday) the car feels flat (ie. I feel absolutely no boost at all). I'm thinking maybe something came loose because at first it was just feeling weak but now it feels N/A.

I got the dyno at a club rate by piggy-backing off a ford probe club's dyno meet. They let me in on their meet for $25 and as I said the car seemed to be running fine before the boost gauge quit. I'm gonna go get a cheap guage from autozone in the morning.

I actually plan on getting a rebuild soon but overall the motor is still performing ok.

What mods do you have? If completely stock, I'd recommend checking or removing and re-installing all couplers/connectors from the turbos to the throttle body. Chances are, you have a major boost leak, due to a split/loose connection. Remem er these things have to be air-tight to at least 10-12 psi.

Also, get a down pipe if you don't have one.

Its bone stock, no dp/mp, no intake, no exhuast nothing. The boost gauge was an Autometer. Gonna go check piping now and I'm ordering the rx-7 vac hose kit from Hose Techniques in maybe 4 hours. Just giving someone time to tell me not to get that brand since I really dont feel like paying $120 right now but I will if I have too or if there's a real reason that I should pay more then I'd do that.

Dude, some people don't dig the hosetechnique kit but to be honest I bet 80% of the people who have done the hose job have this brand of hose...I have it and it's great...didn't have any problem with it and it's super easy to work with.

Why buy a $120 hose kit when you could buy less than $10 worth of hose to fix your problem?

Seriously, you're motor has over 100K miles so don't throw long term upgrades on it. Standard rubber hose will easily last 50K miles with the fan mod & a DP.

heh, I had actually just thought of that about 30 minutes ago. I took damn near the entire intake system apart and put it back together. I found no damaged hoses and if they were loose at some point, they arent any more. Took her for a spin (actually went to autoparts store and ordered K&N air filter) and she still feels just as flat as before so i'm leaning toward vac hoses now. Gonna go pick up some rubber in a little while (still ordering the silicone kit but not installing until after I get the motor rebuilt and ported). I want to get as close to factory specs as I can before modifying anything. Thanks for the help so far. We'll see what happens next...

check all the couplings for splits.. sometimes they only show up under boost, so look carefully.
