i caught air today

my shocks were probably just completely unloaded, but on the landing my wheels chirped and heard a thump. it happened on an intersection with a hump in the middle, i was going about 60mph

does anyone have any video footage of an FD in the air?

lol. Initial D.

I wouldn't be jumping your car. You probably didn't mean it, but still, wanna slow down maybe at those "humpy" intersections. And no i dont know of any video's.

I jumped my ford tempo right after I first got my license. There was some intersections with a raised middle and we discovered that they were pretty fun at the speed limit of 30. They were especially fun at 60. 5 kids in the car and we still managed to clear the intersection. I must have had a good four feet of air. It was a steep bump.

When I came down my car sounded WAY different. From a Jetsons sounding car to a Honda. I later found out that when it bottomed out I broke the inlet pipe from the muffler, so now I run without a muffler. The rearview mirror and my rear bumper also broke. The right headlight became misaligned. I think some other things broke too, but I don't remember. We always said we were going to do it again and tape it but I broke so much **** doing that I don't think I'd do it again, lol.

At Summit Point on the Shenandoah circuit, there's a crest and a drop off on the bridge straight. Even with stock power I hit the crest at over 100 mph and the tires come off the ground just momentarily and the RPMs shoot up. I bet it's pretty hairy on a car with a lot more power.

I took my grandpa on a nice little quarter mile run in my first FD. Hit a little bump at 110, went airborn landed at an angle. Don't know how we didn't smash into the ditch (narrow two lane road outside of town), but saved it. Now I've got a 20B FD and I can't get him to go anywhere near it.

I got some air at the uphill at Lime Rock on the old circuit. I bet there is plenty of video of other race cars getting air there.

We jumped afgmoto1978's fd going up palomar mountain, we hit a cattle grate @ about 70-75 mph.

It claimed a 19 row oil cooler on the driver side...

But it was worth it.

In my younger years we used to go where there was this really steep hill. If you were coming from the other side of the hill (where there was a long flat road) and if you went fast enough you could actually launch off it. The landing was rather soothing and simple as you would land on the decline, that is unless you got too much air as in 4 foot +. #1 rule was wear your seat belt because otherwise your head would hit the ceiling! lol.

Now they put a stop sign at the top of the hill and made the cross street straight through so that put an end to those shananigans.

One day, a friend of mine and I were driving around in his old Ford Ranger when we decided to speed up this steep hill with a set of train tracks at the top. Needless to say we completely cleared the train tracks and landed pretty smoothly. The only problem was the jump knocked the truck out of alignment.

Upon landing, we both realized how stupid it was and no way will he or I ever attempt something like that again.

The Dukes of Hazard would have been proud.

Near the house I grew up in there is a two lane road with a small bridge that goes over a creek. From one direction the bride had such a pronounced decline that kids would fly over it just to try and get air. My junior year in high school a friend of mine was flying throuh there in his maxima, caught air and landed a little crooked... The car ended up wrapped around a tree killing him not instantly, but before the paramedics could cut him out of the car. Luckily he was the only one in the car.

The following year another group of friends (they should have known better from the above mistake) did the same thing only by the grace of God none of them were killed.

I don't mean to rain on the "hey its cool to jump your car" parade but be careful doing that ****. If you land incorrectly there is not telling what will happen, maybe you will be ok, maybe you will hit a pole, end up in a ditch, or God forbid hit another car. Like I said, I hate being "that" guy but I lost a close friend on what was a stupid *** mistake...
