dude keep the car, you will NEVER get the money out of it. And even though the other cars you listed are cool cars, i dont feel that they are better than an FD. Besides ANY car breaks, doesnt matter what it is. If you get an S2000 dont you think you will have to replace the clutch eventually??? Why buy a used car with someone elses problems, when you have a car that you KNOW whats going on with it. Any car is a risk, and if you have put that much money into fixing it then it should be ok.

Takes me about 20-30 minutes to hoist the engine out of my car....

I should get it on video one day.

Then i can just switch out the clutch inside.

If his car is fairly stock, it's going to take much longer than 20-30 minutes. He'll spend more than half that amount of time just for just prep work like draining the fluids and getting the IC/rad out of the way.

If you can pull a stock FD's engine from start to finish (no prep) in 20-30 minutes without cutting or breaking anything, I'd be impressed.

Gotta think how many times I have done it....

Jack Car up
Undo structural braces
PPF
Driveshaft Bolts
Starter
Clutch line
Oil Lines
ECU plug
Pull engine

ummm am i forgetting something? lol

No AC, PS, Emmisions, and a single makes maintenance so much easier.

It's a whole different game with a stock setup.

People forget that when they tell you 'oh, the clutch is a 2 hour job'.

Yes, which is what a majority of the people on here are... No problems. I just don't want people thinking that if they can't do it in 30-45 minutes, something is wrong when it's really not.

you guys are silly.

normal cars do NOT break as much as FD's, its not true.

almost all the money ive spent on my car was not to enhance it, or mod it, or anything like that. FD's break. they break alot. they break under normal driving or aggressive driving. most of the money ive spent is fixing dumb things. im not talking pocket change either, more around 10-14 thousand dollars.

if i look back on it, ive spent 30 thousand dollars on this car. ive only had it for about four years now. half of that was in nice green cash. if i had to do it again, u bet i would be owning an brand new STI. one that starts in the morning and doesnt have some new creeking noise every few days after i just fixed the last one.

do i like my FD? sure its great. is it worth the money? of course not. am i going to buy a dodge neon SRT? no way. if you think you have to spend alot of money to have a nice fast reliable car, its not true, there are plenty of cars with good performance and good value. its too late for me though, i could not even get half back of what i have invested. btw my car again, is not driveable. starter completely went out yesterday and now all the stores are closed for christmas. its another week of bumming a ride to work for me.

Well it has been 24 hours to cool down. I may take you guys advise and keep the car. Searched the web all last night to see what other car I may want. Audi TT- reliability issue, Mitsubishi 3000GT- reliability issue, Honda S2000- don't like convertible, Supra-too expensive.
So I guess I'll hold on to her for alittle longer. It pay for and my wife said I should keep it.
So gonna call my mechanic on Monday. Do you know how much it would cost me for parts and labor ?

well an act clutch+RB FW combo is ~800$ from the rx7store. if you want to do a little upgrade while you are in there. http://www.rx7store.net/index.asp?Pa...ROD&ProdID=236

if you just want to replace it, a normal act s/s clutch is ~500$. there are other clutches of course, the act s/s is just a very popular one for lightly modded cars.

labor hours? 2-4 i'd say depending on the shop and from what i hear the average time spend is by someone that knows what they are doing.

I'm like you when I first got my fd but after doing search on this club and do it yourself site like:
www.scuderiaciriani.com
www.robrobinette.com

If you could do all of the problem yourself you would save alot of $$$

If you have the tools, you can do it yourself. I currenty have a boatload of photos from my in-progress tranny rebuild I could send to someone if they want a reference sooner. Between the FSM and the how-to on scuderiaciriani, there is enough written documentation.

It's stories like these that make me appreciate the trouble free ownership I've had with my 93 for the past 10 years. Other than mods I've bought for the car, I've spent no more than maybe $250 on repair type items, and that's just a ball park figure since I can't remember the last time I had to spend money to fix something that was broken or not working. oh wait, I just forgot my CD player just has stopped playing cd's...shoot, my car's for sale now

hahaha, don't sell Tim, go to http://www.carstereohelp.com/ They will fix your stereo and this guy is honest. I sent 4 of the 5 bose amps in for repair because I thought the stereo didn't sound "as good" and figured they needed a refurb. He sent them all back and said they all tested fine. He even refurbed one for free and retested to make sure he was getting the same result (he did). Only charged me to have them shipped back. Turns out, since I went single and lost all of the emissions equip, I just can't HEAR the stereo unless I turn it up to where it sounds crappy. Still sounds ok with the car not running.

thanks for the heads up about the stereo, my car's not for sale anymore, but damn I have to spend to much money keeping it in top shape

I don't really want to come off like a smartass, but I do wish it was possible for those people that have had trouble to have a 2 to 3 year stretch and the car runs and acts perfect....man these cars, when running right, are just a dream.

God DAMN. What a fucked up life. If having a seven is such a headache as yours, maybe It's not a great idea to get into one unless you're really riled up about it.

I want a 3rd gen..but man...I'm going to look for something that was well maintianed. I bet even then it's going to rape my wallet...

those who do not possess the willingness to cope, do not find themselves with FD. The true path of the hot rodder is fraught with peril.

Yup. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen, and surf on over to www.clubcivic.com or something.

one of the big benefits with an "old man's grocery getter" like a vette is not having to deal with so many kiddies.

yeah, I was just thinking the same thing, even though I've only had my car since May. Sure I've spent money on my car, but it's all been regular maintainence stuff and reliability upgrades.
