Which I/C to get
Alright well i got a rebuild about 3 months ago and i am just about to finish up paying that off. I got 1300cc inj on the way street port with bnr stage 3 twins. im not sure if i want a stock mount (aka pettit cc 3 or anyother) or a front mount.
i use the car pretty much as a daily. Just want others thoughts

Go with a stock mount for everyday use and abuse, the pros and cons are the opossite to the FMIC
FMIC cons
1. a lot more involved to install (cutting/removing of rebar/bumper & repositioning rad)
2. heat soaks radiator (sits directly in front of rad blocking air to it)
3. road debris (rocks/bugs etc)
4. longer charge piping possibly adding to turbo lag
FMIC pros
1. possibly a larger core (not always)
2. Looks Damn Cool

Personally i'm really impressed with the greddy stock mount. I have some experience with it and a friend of mine running a street port with stock twins at 14 psi greddy smic ducted sees around 35 degrees celcius as an average for his drives. As low as below 20 c. on a cool night. Pretty nice i think. Plus its pretty nice looking and its a good size and shape.

I had a Greddy FMIC and I loved everything about it other than the heating issues. It WOULD run hot WOT from time to time.
I know that with a smic you will see great results and a lot less strain and time installing. If you get a smic, just make sure to get one with an air duct. So, so important; crucial, really.

i wish.. that what i want but i cant give up my a/c. that what i originally wanted. and the v-mount fdnewbie was suppose to come out with long ago never heard from again.. i was thinking about the pettit cc 3 if i hear the greddy stock mount does really good and the pettit is a little bigger= more cooling.. but i still am unsure.

FWIW....
I chose to stay with a stock mount. My car is on the stock twins and about 90% streeted with the occasional autoX, so I felt staying with SMIC was best. No risk of overheating issues, no cutting the bumper reinforcment, no major plumbing, no loss of accessories etc. I also didn't want/need anything radical. I wanted decent fitment without relocating the battery or going to a smaller one. Choices for me were Greddy, Blitz or PFS. It was chance that I ended up with PFS. A nice used one came up for what I felt was a decent price and I bought it.
So far very happy. Overall IATs dropped about 15 C. all else being equal. The duct is a quality piece, very sturdy and everything fit great. My only "beef" is that by design it sources air from that duct for the intake...similar to stock. You could opt for an open intake and just block it off. But I ended up doing a simple mod to (in part) correct this by ducting air from the nose up to the bottom of the intake..which btw, holds the biggest K & N this side of a Kenworth.

I've ran a Greddy SMIC for the last year or so...No problems, runs a lot colder than the stock IC. Switching it out for a VMIC when I finally get around to installing my T04Z
. As a daily driver though I would say SMIC for ease and you will not utilize the others. But if you've got money & time to burn go VMIC.

I have the greddy intercooler and it is great. I ran it for a while with just the top cover it comes with and was ok. I bought a pettit duct and sealed it to my intercooler and it was a night and day difference. Getting on the freeway after a nice heat soak it cooled off twice as fast compared to the piece of sheet metal it comes with.
Similar to the stock set-up, some of the air that is captured by the duct is diverted to the intake rather than going through the intercooler. The good news is that this makes it a true CAI but some of the air that would otherwise go through the intercooler....does not. IMO it's a small issue and was pretty easy to improve.
Ducting
Is it a common issue for the intercooler kits to come with no ducting or improper ducting that allows for the intake to draw from the intercooler's supply of fresh air?
Does the Petite intercooler ducting remedy this?

no, I would think that the duct should be sealed to the intercooler for best results and the intakes should have there own duct/guide.
I'm planning on picking up the RX7Store kit once back in stock. Apparently, AC works but again, the lines will have to be relocated.

what lines are they talking about.. i hear this and that about lines and i only know of 2.. ones all the way to the passenger side just to the left of the intake and the other is in front of the battery.. anything else im missing?
Some VMIC kits don't totally eliminate AC...but you'll have to reroute the AC/lines though. Just a consideration. But ultimately...it's 2 - things for VMIC (1) Out of stock everywhere or waiting (2) Importing a VMIC is expensive from the likes of RHDJapan or Nengun

Not to be a pessemist but I wouldn't use the GReddy SMIC with the BNR's at any significant boost level. I had issues keeping temperatures in check (pre-water injection) using this IC with the BNRs. What I mean by this is I hit 79 C doing a high speed run against a Ralliart EVO V, I was pushing 1.15 bar pretty hard for several miles on the road! Granted, I was using a modified stock duct... That was the instance that made me decide to keep the boost at 12psi until I had my Aquamist system installed.
I would say that a v-mount is the way to go, but that's already off the list =\. I would opt for one of the Pettit units if I (personally) were to buy another SMIC.

I beat on mine all the time with the stock twins @14psi and I am fine. You would think the stock twins would make more heat @.90 bar than bnr's @ 1.15. I think you need better ducting, what was the ambient temp?
Is the Blitz SMIC still being sold by anyone? The usual vendors don't seem to be carrying it any more.
Also, what about the SR SMIC? http://www.srmotorsports.com/sr93intr.html Dimensions look similar to the Blitz. Any fitment problems?
Thanks.

i would recommend the blitz fmic. Have had no problems with it whatsoever, and my car was being used as a DD. Pushed 330whp on stock port motor. Still kept the A/C. and didnt have to relocate my battery. The radiator also sits in a slanted angle, unlike the Greddy FMIC where it is vertical.
