That "brace" is incredibly thin pot metal and provides no actual frame support, it's used as a mounting bracket.

Perhaps I did over pay but it was my only means to an FD even if it means a bit of hard work...
You didn't overpay, it's just that most of these guys wouldn't buy a project car like that. The car needs a lot of TLC regardless of which engine direction you go. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the car and hopefully bringing it back into some sort of respectable condition.

You will be surprised I am in no means afraid of some hard work. To restore the engine bay will not take much money just lots of labor. Should have my engine puller this weekend. I will be removing then engine trans pulling everything off the firewall doing a full over and under pressure wash then strip everything under the hood paint a solid color Pink perhaps? rofl no that would have been the previous owner.... I'm starting to consider having the car painted black possibly. I will be toying with alot of ideas over the coming months.

That was actually the case that the brace was bent I have looked at both frame rails and they have zero issues.

I suppose the reason there are dubious followers is because in most cases if an engine bay is missing anything you'll end up spending a lot of time AND money finding replacements. FDs have a lot of parts and many of them require periodic replacement. As such, there aren't exactly junkyards teeming with cheap parts and Mazda replacements are insanely expensive. Every missing piece can be a time and money consuming ordeal.

IMHO I'd start system by system and build it back up. Brakes, clutch, lighting, cooling, charging, intake & exhaust, fuel, engine, etc.

This is the reason why the LSX swap constantly looks like a better idea no matter how much I would prefer to stay rotary

The LSx still needs brakes, clutch, lighting, cooling, charging, intake, exhaust, fuel, etc.

All of these items are in ok shape with no issues. I drove this car home without a hitch and have drove it quite a bit since. Lighting is a big issue but nearly complete. I'm definitely still on the fence as to my path.
