Question how would you fit a 60mm in the a-pillar

all i see are 52mm a-pillar gauge mounts.. i've seen rx-7s with 60mm gauges in their a-pillars. how did they make them fit? i cant find a 60mm a-pillar mount anywhere for an rx7.. i've seen them for other cars.. like an integra.. i never had a chance to ask the owners where they got the mount.. i think the 52mm is just too small.

a store just said to dremel out the 52mm mount.. has anyone done this?

thanks

It's called a dremmel. You can get any gauge pod from like autometer and get a dremmel to widen the hole.

Dremmel- the one tool that has saved my *** time and time again.

A: do a SEARCH

B: The holes in the Autometer pods can be opened out to take the 60mm gauges

52mm to 60mm gauge pod conversion

I just bought a dual autometer pod, and a single pod (since there is no triple pod available), and 3 60mm gauges by Greddy.

I used my Dremmel Mini-mite to widen the 52mm whole to 60mm. The fit was perfect on all three pods when I finished. The gauges fit snug and did not need any glue or screws to hold them in. To demonstrate how snug the fit was, I can turn the pod w/ the gauge in it upside down and shake it, and the gauge does not come out. I took less than twenty minutes total to do all three pod holes, and that was with no practice. The gauges look absolutely perfect inside the pods without looking bulky or hacked. Now that I've done it, I could probably do an even better job in half the time.

I have heard of people to have tried to widen the holes, and they said that the gauges still stuck out 1/2 inch, or they had to drill holes in the side or back of the pod to make the gauges fit. I don't know what gauges or pod combo they used, but I do know that Greddy 60mm gauges and an autometer gauge pod can be modified to fit perfectly together.

Anyone have any similar experience using other gauges and gauge pod brands?

I would be happy to take payment to buy the gauges and pods, and modify the pods and ship them to you. just reply to my post

I'll post pics as soon as I get them

Triple pod?

Jeeze. I've heard of people whacking themselves on the double pod-I'm guessing it's almost guaranteed that you'll bump it. Not to mention making the a-pillar "blind spot" larger.

Why not a double pod and get a steering column mount and the SAAB DIN panel? That would cover 6 gauges.

I think streering column pods are too busy. It's just a personal preference. the triple pod blind spot is a valid concern in theory because technically there is more physical space beign occupied, but I have actually driven my car with three pods, and I don't think there is a significant diffence in the amount of blind spot. I actually like the fact that my A/F meter in the highests pods is very close to my face because it's the one I want to always pay close attention to. I do have the new Greddy a/f meter that has a warning light for that added "pay attention" affect which I can't miss. Besides, I think the a pillar look is cleaner. If you decide to do the three pod idea, just make sure the pods are rotated as far up as possible (closer to the front window, not the door) because that will give you more clearance when your hands are on the steering wheel.

I don't want to get into a gauge pod war with anyone, I'm just saying that if you want to do a triple gauge pod (52mm to 60mm), that it is possible. Whether it's aethetically pleasing or not is a different subject. I'm happy with my results

Search for it, I know I've posted the part number at least twice, it only costs $14 from my local Saab dealer too.
