Question How will my FD run with a series 5 Turbo?

My engine is stock, My twins are frigged and I have this Series 5 turbo thats been rebuilt , high flowed with a custom down pipe.
I'm thinkin I wont need to change my stock ECU. Does anyone know how these turbos run on FD's?

Done a search , no luck ( I have a feeling you guys call S5 something else over there in US hence no search results)

You're running a fmic, downpipe and midpipe with the stock ECU? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here but that's pretty risky. If the S5 turbos are the same as the '99 spec turbos then I believe you'll see them spool up quicker and you'll get another 10-15 HP over the standard turbos.

if he is running the stock ECU at this point he has broken the "3 mod rule", which in case you are correct.

If by series 5 you mean an 89-91 turbo II turbocharger then the manifolds wont bolt up, and even if you ran a different manifold like an hks then the turbo charger will need to have a T4 flange and the series 5 turbocharger does not.

Unless Im totally off subject

He's asking if he can run an FC turbo on the car.

As far as I know, no one's tried it. It should *work*, all things considered, but I have NO idea what the power would be like. On FC's, they're good for 250-280 at the ground or so with the right fuel.

It's also a hard sell considering you can pick up good used twins for $150-200 easy.

I'd like to see someone try it someday, but I have a feeling it will be a lot of work for not a lot of result.

Dale

If you run the FC turbo with the FC manifold (only way to do it) it should bolt up to the block. Water and oil lines are another story, of course, as is exhaust and everything else, but the turbo and manifold should bolt up.

I agree with Dale, you're going to need a lot of work to get it to run right, and in the end it all just isn't worth it. Look for some used twins for sale.

it's going to run really rich and be slow.

the stock twins flow enough air for 380whp.
the stock FC turbo flows enough for like 280whp. (yeah that's 100whp less air)

ok lets set things straight.
Forget everything you see in my Sig , I dont own that MB FD anymore. I just picked up a new FD with a stock engine, still has a cat and an HKS exhaust ( cat back ) but my twins are stuffed.
So i brought a S5 turbo off my mate ( TII?) which he had bolted up to his FD and it ran fine ( he had a stock ECU as well ) until he crashed his FD.
The downpipe is custom and bolts straight up to the mid pipe.

You can do it. Search for recent posts from 'ahad'. It don't think its ideal and I think you'll be down on power compared to stock but its your car. Why not get a set of used twins?

Personally, I think it's a pretty bad idea. Why go to all that trouble to slow the car down?

Do you have access to compressor maps for both turbos? That will help you make a better decision

from what I've heard, people in other countries do it as a half assed single turbo conversion. I believe there's a guy on here named Ahad from Pakistan who is running an S5 turbo on his stock ECU.

Anyway, it'll be slow as hell and dumping way too much fuel.

thats a really small turbo to be putting on this car... I wounder if the fuel there helps the stock ecu run more mods?
