How well does the stock BOV hold boost?

Everyone says that you only need an aftermarket BOV on an FD when u wanna hear the loud "psssshhhstttttt" but i was curious as to how well the stock one holds boost? Is it wise to get an aftermarket BOV? Why and why not? thanks!

From what I've read, aftermarket BOVs are worthless. They make more noise because they restrict air flow more than the stock BOV. Actually, since that means they don't work as well as stock, they are less than worthless.

Let the flames begin.

wouldnt they make more noise because they release more pressure allowing more airflow?

the stock BOV it will out-boost the stock turbos. you only need a BOV if you are goin single, or just have money to blow and want to sound cool.

Alot of things will be higher pitched (in most cases louder) if it goes through a smaller opening, meaning more restrictive. I think??

I don't know for sure if they are more restrictive but it kinda makes sense. Anyways the stock bov is a very good one but can go bad with age.

i agree, the stock bov's are very loud, if you want that phsssss sound just pull off the hose to the stock bov! the only reason why you may want a aftermarket one is to customize the pitch of the phsssss sound or make it sound weird (there are some that can make some pretty wacked out noises).

I think the stock bov sounds really nice (and loud) anyways. It doesn't seem to leak. It's a good unit.

I think he means that the stock BOV can hold/handle more boost than the stock turbos can produce. I just recently got my FD, but when I was working on it I could have sworn there were TWO Bov's, not just one, returning air to the air intake box.

For example: The stock turbos can push 17psi at max, the stock bov can handle 20psi. It can handle more boost then the turbos can push.

The other is a CRV, yes a Honda CRV! Charge Relief Valve, it is the same thing as the bov but has a different purpose.

LMAO, I took one of those squeeky things out of my dogs toy once and it would have fit perfect. Of course I didn't have the ***** to drive around like that but I did think of it.
