how to tell a jspec trans

im just curious on if anyone knows how to make sure a trans is a jspec. Im looking at buying a trans localy that is stated is jspec with only 25k on it and im just trying to figure out if there is any stamping on it or any indicators if its real or not??

Access cover to release the clutch fork, would have kanji script...not particularly definitive if someone's hoping to deceive, bar code sticker on the box, if still visible/intact might have some more, but can't remember that area precisely. Other than pulling the extension housing and looking at 5th, no sure fire way.

I'm told also that later J-spec transmissions have single synchro in 1st and 3rd gear, which would also be impossible to recognize until the transmission is fully torn down.

If I were buying a transmission like that, I'd pull the main gearbox access plate and inspect the gears and synchros for wear.

I previously bought a j-spec, and the only way I was able to tell without tearing the tranny down was by putting it into 5th and "counting the turns" of the tailshaft vs. the input shaft. If you are careful, you can easily determine the ratio of 5th gear in this manner.
