how to tell if engine/ turbo is rebuilt ?

how can you tell if the engine or turbos are rebuilt / replaced if there are no reciepts ?
i understand a compression test would help, but doesnt that just constitute a healthy engine or turbo ? even with a 10 -8 -10 boost pattern, will there be any way to verify a rebuild / replacement ?

thanks for your time,

eugene

If the rebuilder is a good rebuilder and it is rebuilt he would have cleaned everything he can. So if the engine is really clean that may help determine.

We dont get the blue badge here, so I cant help with that.

There is a serial number stamped on the front end plate underneath the alternator (you have to remove the alternator to see it). If the engine is original, that number will cross-reference to your VIN number. You'll have to go to the dealer to get this info.

That will tell you if you still have the original engine, although it won't tell you if it's been rebuilt or not.

U can't tell if a turbo has been rebuilt. If it has been rebuilt by someone who knows what they r doin', then it's like having a brand new turbo and shouldn't cause any problems. I think when a turbo is rebuilt, the compressor wheel is swapped and the housings r cleaned. (I don't know how to rebuild a turbo.) If something worries you, just get a new single turbo kit.
