Question How strong are the 3rd Gen Tranny's?

Another post prompted me to ask this. How reliable are the stock transmissions? How much power can they handle? I really like the 7's, but they're up against pretty stiff competition. My buddy has a MK-IV SupraTT, and the stock 6spd can handle at least 600ish hp. He claims more, but I'm not about to take that on faith without more research.

I know that if I get one, the first mods that need to be done are along the lines of new seals (Apex?), a fluidyne radiator, and a few other reliability mods before any real performance stuff. What about the transmission?

the stock tranny can take as much horsepwer an you can make. i'd be more worried about the rest of the driveline such as the driveshaft, diff and axles. you also need an upgraded powerplant frame once you start making serious hp since the stock one doesnt hold up for too long.

also a 600 rwhp supra is a completly different animal than a FD. A FD puttin 400-450 rwhp FD will run the same as a Supra in the 6++ .
