Ok gents. The OP has been given several options, let's wait to hear back on some progress.

I did mine without an impact it was difficult though. I used a long piece of 1inch square stock drilled holes do I could bolt it to the flywheel which stopped it from moving. I couldn't get the car high enough to get a long enough breaker bar or cheater pipe in their so I ended up using a hydraulic jack on the breaker bar and jacked it up and it finally broke loose. A good impact would be way easier.

WOW!! what a clever idea that would make the job extremely easy!! I actually had one of the rx7 members come over today and I removed the bolt with his 3/4'' impact wrench and it only took about 3 seconds, thanks Peter

That hydraulic jack on the breaker bar is genius, now I know how i'm gonna reinstall my flywheel nut, along with some blue locktite thanks again

That doesn't sound very safe or precise. Do you have one of those jacks that come with the integrated torque wrench

Now how do you plan on getting the nut back on and torqued? Maybe you'll have one of the Rx7club members come back with his impact gun?

Well ive worked with alot of vws and a company named Kymco actually makes a tool that uses the ring gear as a torque multiplier it has a socket atached to it so when u turn the small gear it turns the nut no fly wheel stop needed actually if you put 30#s on the small gear it ends up being 250 at the socket pretty cool tool to have

I've done that with wheel nuts and my floor jack to lift on the breaker bar. With the car sitting low on the stands, and the length of the car as leverage, it's not dangerous. But with the car up high on jackstands, the breaker bar at a downward angle, and applying torque about the roll axis of the car, there is nothing good about this idea unless your intent is to cause the car to fall off the stands.

Fortunately applying 300ft-lb torque is much easier than breaking the nut loose.

Congrats on getting the flywheel nut off. As you see, having the right tools for the job makes everything much easier. That's not to say you can't "get by" without these tools, but in most cases someone around you has them or they can be rented. It's typically not worth the frustration or possible danger not to look for these alternatives (i.e. asking for local help or renting).

With that, I would say I think it's in your best interest to have Peter come back over when you are reinstalling so you can use the impact again. It's probably about time to hunt down a Pilot Bearing puller.

its very simple dont be so cheap. get a snap-on 1/2 impact...1190 ft lbs even with my 1/3 to 3/4 adapter it broke the bolt away in about 3 seconds.....that or a really long *** bar

I didnt think that the 300+ ft lbs may actually be enough to raise the car up instead of tightening the bolt. Well i'll find another safer way of doing this, thanks

I have seen this particular tool. Truly an excellent way to get the job done.

Those methods of applying torque use the weight of the car to generate the torque. The jack can generate more than enough force to lift the car, obviously. Remember, the nut went on with 300 or 400ft-lb, but it can require double or triple that to break loose. If you could set up with the breaker bar level, this wouldn't be that dangerous IMO but the transmission tunnel prevents that.

I know you're through that part already but I felt that for anyone reading this and planning their own flywheel work that it's just not a safe idea.
