How much will lowered duty cycles affect top end?

Hey guys, I'm going up to KDR next week so he can raise my duty cycles - I'm not sure where they are at now but you can tell my car has the potential to rip up top buts seems held back some...will raising them improve my boost and performance up top?

i think you are alittle confused...are u talking duty cycles in relation to raising boost or in relation to adding fuel?

This question is so ambiguous. There are all kinds of duty cycles. How about posting a COMPLETE question? I dunno why I even check the 3rd gen forum anymore.... (sigh)...

Duty cycles as in fuel..I was tuned for 15 psi with datalogit and my boost gauge is reading 13-13.5 psi (found out my boost gauge reads 1.2 psi lower than the PFC). Anyway, KDR turned my duty cycles down to keep me from spiking and he thinks he might have turned them down a little too much. Seeing that I'm not a datalogit tuning wizard, I thought I might ask a question whether or not bumping up my duty cycles (fuel) will help my top end...the fact that some of you guys are so ******* cocky and already know all there is to know about FDs, please don't check the 3rd gen section and go browse clubsi.com and boggle them with your wisdom, otherwise I was asking a question in the best way I knew how...

I'm not to familiar with the PFC and whether it has boost control, but it sounds like he might have adjusted your wastegate duty cycles to prevent spiking on transition between the turbo's. I don't really see how fuel would have anything to do with spiking. If he's doing what I think hes doing, he probably wants to smooth out your boost curve. Go for it.

Yep, the duty cycles adjustment sounds like the PFC boost control settings -- pre-control and wastegate duty cycles. You can just change them with the commander to raise and lower your boost.

Or you can ditch the PFC controlling boost altogether and get a Profec B boost controller....

Barry,

Adding fuel won't do anything but make it run alittle richer and with everything else the same, lose a few hp. Raise the duty cycle percentages in the boost section from say 58 to 62 and see what the commander says..also making sure you've added some fuel in the cells you are now going to be in.....P16 P17 P18 from N 6 to N20 in those cells. Timing might need to be knocked down 1 degree in P18 N6 through N20 from values in there, depending on what Dave did to those cells. It seems that most see a lower boost number on the commander than what they have on a boost gauge. Mine shows .88 or .9, but my boost guage shows almost 15. I trust the commander rather than my autometer.

Tim

Tim, rynberg, I appreciate the responses. I know there are different types of duty cycles and Dave didn't specify which duty cycles he thinks he should raise in order to improve my top-end. I don't have a commander (I should) so I need to make another trip to KDR for a little more tuning. Dave was explaining that my gauge reads 1.2 psi lower than the PFC (usually the other way around) - that's why I started that other thread about only seeing 13 psi instead of the 15 that my car was set at with datalogit. Anyway, my car doesn't quite feel 370+ rwhp up top because he lowered my car's duty cycles for the street - now I know which duty cycles he's talking about - thanks, and I'll keep posted...
