KBB and NADA is not the end all, it use as a start point. you must look at maintance and history. and serious, salvage title 60% off? thats a joke, i rather not deal with buyers like that in the first place. the only valid reason to lower price that much is condition, the salvage title should nto effect the price more then 20-25% if that. there are so so so many reason for company to total out cars, cars like ours are somewhat rare and factory parts are expensive, add that along with labor and you will easily get it totalled out for a minor front end damage. heck you can get cars totalled for theft, just interior stuff..
Give if its a side impact then yea, but if its a minor front and everything else mint then why the heck not. Lets also not forget that some people dont report things to the insurance company and fix it themselves and most of the time end up doing a horrible job.
i would start with 12k and work your price from there, post some pic of the interior and maintace stuff.

yeah but the fact that it has a salvage title also hinders the buyers ability to sell the car for a fair price should they decide to part with it down the road, not to mention it's significantly harder to get it registered in a fair amount of states, the process would've taken me over a month just to get tags for my s13 but luckily i know a few shady tags places around here which totally ignored my R-title. it doesn't matter what you think. it's just how it is, i know it's not fair and i dont' like it. but their is away around everything, just look around. goog luck.

some people don't have as much common sense as you and I. trust me there are some stupid *** people out there. i know a girl that let a dealership talk her into a 500 dollar state inspection on her accord at the dealership.

azcamel .. all because its in good shape and has records doesnt hinder the fact that the title still has rebuilt or salvaged on it. so your saying i shold be paying $75,000 for a rebuilt titled sl65 amg mercedes ? or I should be paying 22000 for a brand TL with rebuilt title instead of 30,000?

Your logic is not sound. The reason the rebuilt title drops the value of the vehicle so much is as mentioned before; 1. hard to resell 2. unknown damage regardless of previous records 3. difficulty of registration 4. increase insurance rates.

Maybe I just have different insite since a family member owns a dealership, I've gone through NUMEROUS cars for personal, and use to buy and sell cars as a hobby.

The overlieing reason why the value drops so much is you simply cannot know what has happened to the car before. Your argument, azcumel, makes it seem as though you are expecting insurance companies, the new owner, and the state to believe and rely on what the owner has said previously regarding the condition and damage to the repaired vehicle. No-one in there right mind should/would do such a thing.

Even if a vehicle has a clean title and the PO says it's never had any serious damage doesn't mean it didn't. My uncle was looking at a car a while back that was supposedly clean and straight, only to find out after taking it to a shop it had been crunched in the rear pretty good. Point is, you can't always trust a clean title either.
