How much more efficient is it to have two oil coolers?

I tried searching on this topic, but I was wondering how much better is it to have a two oil coolers? Does any have hard numbers to compare the oil temps of having one oil cooler compared with two? I am mainly comparing the stock oil coolers that came with the r1 vs single oil coolers that were in touring and base models.

I've been told that its a great upgrade and makes a difference. I already have a set ready to install.

the single oil coolers are pathetic. the non turbo second gens had single oil coolers which are bigger than both FD stock oil coolers combined.

I think it is important to consider that my Rx-8 has twin coolers which provide more cooling than my FD, kinda pathetic actually.

Oil cooling accounts for roughly 30% of total engine cooling. Getting hard numbers would vary on every different car and at different tracks as the engine operating RPM's are different.

I think what is important to remember is that oil changes according to temperature and that when a certain temperature is passed your oil looses its protective properties and that's when you are going to do something crazy like spin a rotor bearing, which is catastrophic failure.

Don't forget the second oil cooler means more oil in your system total which means more material for the heat to be spread across and it also provides (the cooler) more surface for heat dissipation. Also, to a certain extent the oil even passing through the long lines adds the heat loss.

But I think when volume is considered as a constant the gains of two oil coolers over one would be marginal.

Do you mean total volume of oil here, or volume (length x width x height) of oil cooler(s)?

What are the dimensions of the stock RX8 oil coolers?

I would have to check the thickness because they are much higher than the FD coolers.

No total volume of the coolers.
