How much to boost?

mod's listed in sig.

the boost controller has 2 settings, "hi and lo"

i guess the lo is for daily driving, and may be better to set lower than the stock 7.5?

now the hi, how much boost is unsafe for my particular setup?

also, the boost controller lists everything in "%" instead of lbs of boost, if anyone can explain this, please do.

i love the intake + full exhaust with no ecu upgrade.

might as well boost all the way to 17 psi. you have be this lucky so far... right?

lol

you can only safely boost up to 14psi with a upgraded ecu. over that you need better fuel set up and higher octane gas.

let me guess no wastegate port either, right?

Keep it at 10psi man . . . for your motors sake . . .

EDIT: I heard it was okay to have full exhaust+Intake if you keep it at 10psi.

high boost - 10 psi
low boost - 10 psi
over 10 psi - blown engine without - ecu

next mods performance mods - ECU, IC (injectors/FP too if you want), tune, clutch.

by the way.you cant boost any lower than 7.5 psi
thats the lowest the wastegate will allow.
unless you have a boost leak or you disconnect the flapper door to the wastegate.in that case youll have little to no boost all the time.

Just keep it at 10 and you will be fine for a while. But you should check out that full exhaust, damn.

its completely random which cars get boost creep and which dont.

i ran full exhaust/intakes with stock boost and was fine.

yes, i am an old fc owner....

im a dummy with turbo's, so be nice.

the guy i bought it from said it has a pettit unlimited ecu in it....

he gave me a box with the stock ecu, and then 2 little chips and said they were "pettit limited chips, but he'd leave the unlimited in if he were me"

Pettit doesn't recommend over 13PSI on pump gas.

I don't see an upgraded IC in your list of mods. If it still has the stock IC, I would keep it around 12 PSI at the max. When/if you upgrade your IC, there is no reason you can't up the boost as long as your fuel system is working properly.

thanks, ill keep the max at 10 for the time being =]

as far as ic's, im really not looking to make enormous hp, but i would like something that let me boost a lil more, and cooling for reliability issues is more important to me. therefore i cant see spending $1500, how good would the $900 Greddy 2 row from rx7store.net be good for me?

also, what's the best radiators? koyo?

IMO, I would get a decent SMIC. You can find good SMIC's used for good prices.

As far as radiators, any of them are good. If you are just looking to replace the stock one, check out this thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/wow-%24214-aluminum-radiator-344771/

Some people have had issues installing Koyo's (and some haven't).

yea, i was just reading how FMIC's take away the air from the radiators, so ill def be going SMIC. what kind of boost improvements are the SMIC allowing? what about temps?

ill def consider that radiator, great price. thanks for the link.

are the FD's stock e-fans good? any room for improvement there?

The improvement from an IC may not necessarily be seen as an increase in boost level (depending on the car and the setup). As an example, if you car is boosting 13 PSI with the stock IC; having the turbos work just as hard using an aftermarket IC may produce 15 PSI due to it being more efficient. Having the turbos work less to produce the same (or better) power makes them much more responsive.

The stock fans are very good. There is little room for improvement there.

rx7store.net doesnt have the greddy smic? where can you buy that new?

i was gonna get that, the greddy elbow + type s bov probably.

the elbow any improvement?

isnt the stock bov on the passenger side, and the elbow would relocate it to the driver right?

thanks for all your help!

The elbow doesn't really offer any performance increase.

As far as a Greddy SMIC, there is one forsale now in the Classifieds:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=347561

If you are going to purchase something new (which isn't necessary), get an ASP Med SMIC. Well worth the money, but that Greddy will be just fine.

Yes, the stock BOV is on the passenger side.

A bigger/better IC will *NOT* reduce your engine temps. It will reduce the intake air temperature, allow denser air into the combustion chamber and thus more power. It does not affect the engines cooling ability, and in fact an FMIC will often increase the air temps seen by the radiator (as mentioned above).

It is not a reliability mod and should not be considered as such.

the elbow doesnt "drastically improve" the air flow? im sure it helps, but is it really worth $200+ ?

couldnt find the greddy SMIC on any sites, looking for what a new one costs. any links?

where can the ASP one mentioned be purchased? what other cooling mods should i do besides the radiator and aluminum ast?

also, do i/should i get a ported wastegate?

again, thanks for all the help; im learning =]
