That rear intake system stuff in the back of touring models... I'm debating taking mine out but I'm worried about the space it'll leave that the carpet won't cover

It seems like it only emits a low volume deep sound?

just curious how many still have it in

I took mine out, but it wasn't working when I bought the car. I think that I'm just going to buy some carpet for it, eventually. >_>

For the carpet issue just buy the r1 carpet for back there, They didnt come with the bose tube so the carpet covers the whole area.

In the process of taking mine out right now. What a PITA if you ever get a flat and have to take that thing out on the side of the road eh? (I'm even missing a tool in my left side tool box, the one in the far left spot - probably a M6/10 mm wrench/driver that reaches those tough bolts. So I would have been royally screwed if that ever happened........)

Now the question is......how many people are trashing them as opposed to trying to find a happy home for them?

Touring models came with 3 front speakers and the Bose acoustic wave system. Base, PEP and R1 models came with 3 front and 2 rear. So if you just ditch your wave system, you'll lose a lot. You'll have to run new wires to the rear quarter panels, find some speaker brackets and replace the map pockets with speaker grilles in order to regain some quality.

Stock vs Stock, obviously the Bose sounds much better when working properly, but new aftermarket speakers can sound much better.

I tossed mine, but not before stripping the speakers out of them. I actually put them in my Subaru to fill in the bass in the rear.

Bose radio system

Still have mine, I bought the car new in 1992 and it still works fine. The only trouble I have is with my led dial which doesn't light up anymore. It makes it a little difficult to dial the correct radio station.
