How many of you install parts yourself?
one time i adjusted my idle, then i took it to jiffy lube and they changed my oil. it shifted mad quick after that.
LMAO!!!
uuggg... i do it all but hate every minute of it. unless there is
involved.
dont do body work though...

I do simple bolt-on work only (change oil, stereo install, etc...). I daily drive mine and don't have the time to have it sitting for the few days/weeks that it would take me to learn everything. Maintenance bills add up pretty quick, though
.
.
everything myself , exept bodywork,i guess there`s a kind of art involved with that
stereo ,engine ,manifold ,3-rotor swap is what i am currently trying to master ,frisky little sucker ,but worth it i guess

I do everything I can myself. If I had the time/tools I'd do a lot more. I would have loved to have another car and a garage so I could have pulled my engine this past spring when it went kaboom, but I couldn't.
And someday I will have a lift in the garage!

I love working on my car, its hard and annoying sometimes, but the reward of knowing i did it myself (and the $$ in my pocket) puts a big smile on my face.
the only thing i dont do is bodywork, Ive painted and done a couple of cars, but dont trust myself to do the quality work i would want done on the 7.

Anyone know a good place to pick up a service manual?

My advice is to start with small things (hose job, filter changes, bolt-ons like downpipe), and don't be afraid. Just do it. After owning the FD, I have become alot braver with my other cars. Now they never see a shop.
Good luck
Everything myself. It makes for a nice ego boost for myself when its done. Especially doing the auto-manual conversion since everyone said it was soooo hard and not worth the effort. All ya need is basic tools, shop manual and a little time, and the infinite resources of the forum and you can do most any of the work yourself.

I've done all the work on my car minus the tuning and the engine rebuild. I've learned so much about the car.....plus when your all done and it doesn't work you can sit back and kick yourself in the ***, luckily that hasn't happened to me yet!
Everything on my car I have done myself other than Power FC tuning, just to much you can mess up. I haven't had the chance to rebuild my engine yet and I am installing my single turbo this month.

I do all of the maintenance myself. I leave all the motor and electrical stuff to my local shop. It's fun to work on the car and learn as you go. Although I sometimes end up spending more time and money doing it myself.

It seems like a lot of you do all of your own work. How did you learn? Did any of you receve training? Do you use service manuals, the forum, or just wing it? I would love to work on my own car, especially since I am about to spend 8k, on a rebuild etc, but I am scared to? How do I overcome my fear?

I'm curious to know what kind of rebuild you are doing for 8k?

I do as much as humanly possible with my FD. I have rebuilt my turbos. Resealed the whole engine, Done almost all the bolt on additions to my car. Repaired various oil leaks. Replaced the radiator, shocks, struts, Fuel system, alternator, and other stuff. FD's are like a grown mans play toy. Everytime something acts a little funny in my car and I get to work on it I love it that much more. Dont be afraid to take it apart and fiddle with all its inerds. And my golden rule! Never Replace ! Always Upgrade! Hope others feel the same way. Later guys.

I'm like most guys on the forum. I can bolt stuff like all the rest, but when it comes to Engien blocks ot cltuches or trannys, I leave that to the pros with the better equipment and more patience.
Ive done all the bolt-on's, rebuilt my motor, setup new ring&pinion with kaaz, learning to tune with wide band and datalogit slow and eazy.
the only thing i havent opened is the tranny but thats gonna change soon 5th gear syncro goin bad
Oh yeah it helps that im a mechanic and have a shop and all the tools at my disposal

The only thing that I havn't done myself are my brakes and that is because I didn't have the time to do them when they needed to be done. Other then that I have done everything else myself.
All the work in my car I do myself exept for when I had the motor changed, I don't have garage space othewise that would also be done by me.

I'm pretty sure I lost a couple of nuts by dropping them into the holes of the crossmember, too
If I were to rebuild an engine, I'd probably forget to put the rotors in

*I bled ~ a cup of blood by cutting my finger deeply just trying to tighten a hoseclamp with a slotted screwdriver

For me, if I want it done right, I don't do it myself! I had a coolant leak near the turbos several months ago, and I started taking everything off; dp, y-pipe, & was about to remove the turbos.... turns out it was just the turbo coolant hose dripping down, throwing me off

You got to take you time, I don't like using gloves but the mechanix ones are good, you should try'em.
