Define "rebuild."

I've only used one Mazda reman short block, but I've had my motor out of the car a few times.....hey, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

The original motor died after 102,543 miles. I have 7350 miles on the new Malloy/KDR motor.

Depends...

My First Gen Engine Died after owning the car a year (used), I then replaced it with a Japanese Import. That engine died within 10K miles. That is when I learned that many of the imports had been overheated at some time and were on their last legs. Replaced that one with a Reman and sold the car three years later.

My second gen is still going strong with high miles. The engine has never even been looked at... except for changing plugs.

Third Gen is still going after at least the four years I have owned it.

I had the car about 6 months before it blew. Sent it to Pettit they did an awsome job. I have 40k on this new engine, it is street ported w/ 3mm seals. This engine has lasted a long time, and I do not baby it. There are a couple of other guys around me that are about the same with milage on their rebiulds.

2 motors.

I've had my FD for seven years. The first motor/turbos had to be replaced due to a coolant seal failiure at 62K miles(replaced under warranty). Now, at 105k miles, I'm having a reman, ported by Pineapple installed due to a front-cover oil leak and coolant seal failure(agaiin).

How is you idle? Lumpy? Any changes in the way the engine runs that you don't like?

Original motor at 50K.

Reman at 45K. The way I see it, motor replacement at around 40-50K is like replacing a clutch, brake pads or batteries. Or like an airplane, after so many flight hours, you rebuild the engine.

original engine went at 60K. Coolant seals.
Replaced with Mazda factory re-built. went at 120K. coolant seals.
having re-built by Rotorsports Racing installed as we speak. Third time's the charm, right?
