I have heard nothing but good things on the Pettite Protek-R fuel lubricant, what are your recommendations. I also have 4(4oz) sitting in my garage so should I or should not use it.

I used it like directed, but I think that it is to much for a daily driver. My car seemed to get a little sluggish and I was getting about 3 miles to the gallon less after using it for a couple weeks. So I stopped using it and put in some fuel injector cleaner and I went back to my normal 17 miles to the gallon. Now I use about 1/3 what they tell you to. I guess if I was racing it or driving harder I could use what they tell you to. I use my car as a daily driver including 20 miles a day on the highway.

i used it before, and also found out from a reliable source what "protec-r"is made of. all it is, is polaris synthetic 2-cycle jetski oil. any 2 stroke oil that is synthetic will work the same. also by adding the premix, it lowers the octane rating of your fuel. not by much, but just be aware of it. another key word you may want to look up is "octane" i know there are a few threads on here discussing this topic also.

I have used it for about 1 year now I havent had any problems.Last time I was at Pettit they told me it reduced wear in the motor.

I have used it numerous times, mainly at track events and if I know I'm going to be hammering it around the street.

I don't think it hurts at all, in fact, judging from what other people have experienced it is beneficial, but I don't doubt that there may be a better (or cheaper equivalent) product out there.

Also, it is not going to lower your octane significantly at all, not 4-8oz in a 20 gallon tank.

you are right. but i was just mentioning it because who knows if he is going to stop using the stock omp. people do this very often because regular motor oil was never ment to be burned in your motor. if you opt to go this route, it is something you need to be aware of.

Actually regular (dino) oil is fine to burn in the engine...the problem is with synthetics. They supposedly do not burn totally clean, and leave deposits. That is why Mazda says do not run synthetic oil in the RX7.

Disabling the OMP lets you run synthetic oil in the car, and separate premix in the gas tank to lubricate the rotor and apex seals, or even a separate pump and reservoir for the lubricating of the apex seals and rotor.

When running a premix like Protek R you are actually being a bite redundant...because you have an OMP in the car that oils the rotor/apex seals for you....but I don't think it can hurt.

I have been running it in my present tank of gas, and it seems about the same to me... You can't be too careful with these engines can you?

Is teh Protek similar to Marvel's Mystery Oil? Any thoughts?

They make a "special" blend for rotaries. I am pretty sure it is similar to Marvel Mystery oil...

Just use Marvel Mystery Oil that you can pick up at walmart for dirt cheap. Talk to the guys at Pineapple about it.

So that Marvel mystery oil is used the same concept like the Protek-R lubricant. I heard of numerous discussions on it, school me on the oil.
